Silver dog is an adult male. Silver is current on his shots, great on a leash, loves the car, good with dogs, was boarded with another and no food fights. Silver comes from a collector who had 35 dogs at the time officials stepped in and took the dogs. Silver is in good health and a beautiful dog who loves to play and loves to talk. Wooo Woo Woooo! Silver is housebroken and goes to the door when he needs out. Silver also does not have one aggressive bone in his body and is reported by his foster family to be nothing but a happy go lucky boy. Silver is also GREAT with kids, check out his photo album to see Silver lounging with the family and boys at his foster home.
Are you my new family? Will you take me to my new forever home?
Silver is fostered in Spokane, WA. Transport might be available to the Puget Sound area.
Update: Thanks to a generous donation this surgery is now fully funded! A previous adopter Rex, who adopted Kweebo, has sent in full payment for Silvers surgery. Thank-you so very much Rex!
Silver needs your help! He has huge double rear dew claws that get caught on things and in the crusty snow causing him much discomfort. Surgery to have them removed will cost $125. Since this is not life threatening, we cannot use our meager and hard earned rescue funds to help with this. You directed contribution could make this happen for Silver and increase his quality of life as he waits to be adopted. Please consider making a donation to Silver

Phage LOVES to be with people. He has not challenged any fencing and appears to do well with other dogs his size, either sex. No cats. Phage is located in Arlington, WA. If interested in Phage, please contact Angela Horn at 360-403-0206.

Denali is a young adult, neutered, black/white. He is a big/long boy weighing in at 110+lbs. His rabies are current, but he does need his annual boosters updated. He knows some basic obedience: sit, come and walks on leash, but does pull a bit (like any good Malamute!). Denali is also housebroken and crate trained. He can be a bit anxious when riding in a vehicle. He is not an escape artist, but will roam given the opportunity.
Denalis owner says he LOVES cats (he was raised with them) and he is friendly with other dogs if they are friendly to him.
Denali is afraid of children and shy with people he does not know. Once his trust has been gained, he does well with the people he knows. While his owner got him when he was only 3 months old, this is something he has not overcome so she feels _something_ happened to him before she got him.
The family adopting Denali will need to have patience with him while he adjusts to his new life. They will need to be willing to earn his trust; once gained they will have a friend for life!
A fenced yard is required - no kennels. Denalis owner will select his new home. SPDR will provide assistance in initial screening and home check.
Denali is living with his family in Renton, WA

Nikota is located in Brush Prarie, WA (Just north east of Vancouver, WA)

This sweetie is the perfect size for the person who wants a malamute personality in a smaller package! Very people friendly, travels well in the car. Does not appear to be dog aggressive at all as he gets along great with females and males alike (see photo album) and gets along great with the three dogs at his foster home. Cody is currently being fostered in Issaquah, WA.

Solomon is being fostered in Monroe, WA

Tocla ended up in rescue by no fault of her own. Their owner was taken to a nursing home and she had no caregiver any longer. She had been neglected for some time before people realized her caregiver was no longer capable. Tocla is somewhat dog aggressive but VERY loving to people. She needs a home SOON. How can you resist her face?
Tocla is located in Spokane, WA at the Spokane Humane Society. If you are interested in her please contact them at animals@spokanehumanesociety.org

Bear has been adopted by his foster family
Bear is WONDERFUL with children and with all people and is very good with other dogs as well. He loves life, attention, walks, his kennel-mates - just everything! Bear is an agile boy just ready to help motivate you to get out and take those walks you've been meaning to! He knows sit and down, and will even actually sit - well - if you have cookies for him! He is a good looking young guy with some of the silkiest fur around, a gorgeous tail and a bright, bright face. Bear has one of the easiest, happiest personalities going - he just personifies some of the best traits in this great breed. And you will love him. Bear is being fostered in the Maple Valley Area

Dakota has some special needs. Physically he is in good shape but he appears to be suffering from possible early abuse. He can be schizzy about things. He panics over thunder and fireworks and is relentless in his drive for safety. He can also destroy leashes if tied out alone and seems to think he needs to bury his food. Things like that. His confidence has grown in foster care and we are checking him out to see how he handles change. He wants so much to belong and we think he needs attention.
Dakota is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

Boss is currently located at the Humane Society of Skagit Valley. Boss was abandoned me in the Capehorn area. I am a big beautiful boy who needs a home with lots of room and lots of love. Do you have room in your heart and home for me?

This boy is currently being held at the King County Animal Control Kent, WA facility. He is reported to be a absolute doll with a great temperment, is extremely friendly, and passed all his temperment tests. Unfortunatly he's a bit undernourished so will need a little TLC getting him back in shape, but this dear should be more than worth the efforts!
If you are interested in him please contact them directly at King County Animal Services or at:

This girl was released by her owner as they had to keep her in a small kennel and we never had time for her. Being dumped at the county shelter could be the best thing that ever happened to this girl. She now has a second chance for a real life. One where people love her and make her part of the family, or at least give her room to run and play. She is friendly and LOVED the play area and her walk. Unknown with cats or other dogs at this point. Shaunton is fostered in the Spokane area.

Argus is thought to be around 2-3 yrs old. He is neutered, vaccines are current, he has been wormed and microchipped. He does well on leash, knows some simple commands and rides well in the car. He LOVES to play with other dogs - boys or girls! And he does not seem too interested in cats - he does become alert and wants to chase if the cat runs. Unknown with children at this time. He is a real loveable boy. Very calm and relaxed. He was able to walk right into his foster moms pack with no problems. Someone put a LOT of time into socializing this boy! All this boy needs is a good brushing and a loving active family and he will be as happy as can be! A secure yard is a must and a canine companion is preferred as Argus really enjoys having a buddy. Argus is being fostered in Puyallup, WA.
The adoption of this dog is being handled by Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue (SPDR). If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit the SPDR website at www.spdrdogs.org and complete the Adoption Application and Terms of Adoption and mail to SPDR with the required processing fee.

Spice is fostered in the Monroe, WA.

Katie is very *young* senior with lots of energy and TONS of love to give.
She knows how to sit and give her paw. She wags and smiles when she sees you. She has all her beauty. Katie needs a place to live out the rest of her years. She is in good health and spayed. She shows aggression toward some other dogs, in typical malamute fashion. She loves people. A home without very young children is recommended since she is older and wary of being hurt.
Katie is presently being fostered in Olympia, WA. Transport is available to the Puget Sound area.
Update: Merrilee Carey has donated enough funds that we were able to get Katie into the vet for further tests and have discovered thankfully that the growth is not cancerous and that removal is not necessary! :) If it continues to bother her we will ask again for remainder donations to cover the remainder of the cost. Diana Reitz has generously begun with a donation to that fund. But for now, she is healthy and should continue to live out the rest of her years hopefully adopted soon to her forever home. Thank you Merrilee and Diana!

Kola is a delight - great with kids, other dogs, and easy to work with. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, housebroken, knows basic commands and is eager to learn more. Kola can be seen in Maple Valley only for the next couple of weeks and after that she may be headed back to Walla Walla so meet her while you can! Kola is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

Enya is terrifically sweet and the typical Mal in her reactions to people. Loving but stubborn, learns quickly. Her temporary home said she loves kids - to the point that she dug out to run greet them at the bus stop. Enya gets along well with other dogs and is definitely just a big puppy. They also have an outdoor cat who runs INTO the backyard where Enya and a big black lab are and sits on top of the dog house. The cat and Enya just sit and look at each other.
Enya is actually a light sable even though her pictures all look gray. Enya currently weights about 70-75 lbs, but should probably be around 85-90 when fully grown and fully nourished. Enya may still have some growing to do - hard to say. Enya is still coming into her coat and is not really a woolly right now, but will have a slightly longer coat. Enya seems to be quite the young gal.
Note: Enya is not quite ready for adoption. She was badly undernourished and still needs to be spayed. Enya will most likely be ready for adoption in early May.

This girl is very people friendly, rides in a car well, always ready to _go_, tolerates cats, knows sit, down, and loves to be brushed. She is not food protective. She is a sweet dog that would probably fit most people's wants in a malamute. She is housetrained and enjoys being in the house. Of course, she thinks she is a couch potato! As with most malamutes, we would not recommend that she be placed in a home where she would be unsupervised with small dogs or other small animals. She gets along with most of her foster owners other malamutes, except for one, so she, again like most malamutes, can be choosy about her friends.
She is currently being fostered in the Spokane area.

Tipo (The i should be pronounced as a long E) is a beautiful gray/white boy with LOTS of energy! His foster mom reports that he plays very nicely with two of her female Malamutes, one of which is older, and does not appear to be concerned about other dogs. He has shown some interest in cats, but so far so good. Tipo enjoys sitting on your feet and being close as much as possible. Tipo is a young adult and still has some growing/learning to do. His foster mom currently has him enrolled in obedience classes and he is doing very well! Tipo would do well in an active home where he can have lots of attention. A securely fenced yard is a must. Tipo is being fostered in Burlington, WA (south of Bellingham).

Sitka is a young female who was turned into the Kent Shelter. Sitka is the typical Mal puppy, full of energy and wanting to go Go GO! If your looking for a running companion or other playmate full of love and energy Sitka is your gal! Sitka did just great on leash and being groomed, and is the first to tell you when it's time to go run and play with that beautiful Malamute Woo Woo Wooooo! Sitka is a Alpha female, and has some issues with needing companionship, however she can be a bit picky as to who she associates with in the animal world. Sitka would do best being adopted into a home with another Malamute or doggy companion.
Sitka is currently being boarded in Maple Valley, WA
The adoption of this dog is being handled by Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue (SPDR). If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit the SPDR website at www.spdrdogs.org and complete the Adoption Application and Terms of Adoption and mail to SPDR with the required processing fee.

Blizzard, a big black and white young Male, is a great boy! Blizzard is a big love bug, preferring to lean into you and gaze up at you more than almost anything else in life! Blizzard was recently fixed, so if your looking for a young male Mal to add to your family, here is your new boy! Blizzard walks great on leash, takes treats VERY gently, and stood perfectly still while being groomed.
Blizzard is currently being boarded in Maple Valley, WA
The adoption of this dog is being handled by Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue (SPDR). If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit the SPDR website at www.spdrdogs.org and complete the Adoption Application and Terms of Adoption and mail to SPDR with the required processing fee.

Larry is a handsome black/white boy, neutered, current on his shots and microchipped. He is described by his previous owner as being good with adults and children. He was raised with an 11yr old and 13yr old. He was also raised with a kitty and appears to accept them. Larry does well with other dogs as well. Larry knows some basic obedience commands including hand signals. He rides wonderfully in the car - preferring the front seat! And he is house trained and used to sleeping in the house at night. His previous owner says he is a very loving and laid back boy. He likes his toys, his blanket and pig ears for a treat! Larry is not a candidate for a farm - he will eat chickens and rabbits and he will chase larger livestock. Secure fencing is a must! Larry is being cared for in Maple Valley, WA.
The adoption of this dog is being handled by Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue (SPDR). If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit the SPDR website at www.spdrdogs.org an d complete the Adoption Application an d Terms of Adoption and mail to SPDR with the required processing fee.

Jetta, was a year old in November, weighs over 100 pounds. She is an incredibly happy dog as evidenced by her constant wagging! Jetta wants desperately to be loved and tries to be affectionate but she is still a puppy in a very big body and does not really know how to channel her energy. She tends to get excited easily and can be very pushy! She will sit and down, but is quite strong and needs an experienced hand on the end of a leash.
As a result of having had four homes in her short life Jetta demonstrates some degree of separation anxiety. Understandably, she does not like to be left alone and her first choice is always to be with the humans. Although she was debarked in one of those homes the procedure was not 100% successful and she is quite capable of making her intentions known! She loves to ride in the car, is very good in the house, is housebroken and crate trained. She also LOVES the water and is an excellent swimmer!
Jetta has a strong prey drive and has already gotten into trouble for killing chickens. Although she does get along with the occasional male dog, Jetta has shown signs of aggression towards female dogs and animals smaller than her (which is most of them!) She will definitely go after cats.
If Jetta could write her own adoption notice it might read:
WANTED:
Young, strong, adult human to share life with young, strong adult malamute.
No other animals or small children please. Must have a fenced yard.
Must like the outdoors and the water.
If you work from home, or can take me with you to work, I would like that a bunch! Must be patient and kind and want to keep me forever.
Jetta would be a perfect only pet for someone looking for an unusually loyal malamute companion. Her new family will need patience with this bundle of energy, but she should be well worth the effort. Jetta is currently fostered in Bend, OR.

Raven is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out but typically prefers to be outdoors. When he comes in the house he usually only wants to stay indoors for 30 minutes or so at a time before telling you he wants back out. Raven is used to being in a large chain link kennel with a dog house at night and during the day being free to roam in his fenced back yard. Raven, like most Mals, does tend to dig when he is bored and he has been know to chew on a few kid toys if they are left within reach and unattended. Raven actually likes to carry stuffed animals around the house.
Raven has been camping a few times and rides in the truck very well, even for extended periods of time. Raven is a very social boy and would do best in a home with at least one more large dog to keep him company.
Raven is currently living with his family in Black Diamon, WA while looking for his new home.

Kia is a beautiful sweet girl in need of a home with a very secure yard. She is spayed, current on her vaccines, wormed and microchipped. She LOVES to be brushed and go for walks. She rides well in the car and is a dream on leash - just give her the lead and off she goes! Kia is housetrained and used to being an indoor/outdoor dog. Her previous life included other dogs and children over 11 yrs old. She can play rough so probably would do best with dogs her size. No cats. Kia will dig if left alone in a small confined area. She would probably do best in a family where she has a buddy or where her people are not away for real long periods of time. Kia is being cared for in Maple Valley, WA.
Girls Day Out - Volunteer Sylvia had this to say about her recent visit with Kia:
I picked Kia up today and we went for a several mile walk on the Preston trail in the pouring rain. She was enjoying herself so much that I had fun too, even though we both got soaked. As soon as she was back in the car I noticed she smelled horrible. I took her to The Grooming Spa where I take my two and gave her a bath. She also had her ears cleaned and got a good brushing too. She was such a good girl the whole time although she hated the dryer so that part was time consuming.
We left the spa and it was off to Petco to pick out some goodies and a stuffed toy. While in Petco she was the perfect lady. She now has a soft squeaky pig friend named Wilbur staying in her kennel with her. We also got her a name tag and put that and her rabies tag on her collar.
She slept in the crate the entire way back to Maple Valley. I think it's safe to say that 'Girls day out' was a success!

Cayenne is a Young Adult Malamute mix. She has been raised in a loving home with children and other dogs. The previous owners are available to speak with. They now live on a large property fenced with hotwire (horse fencing) only, but we require a fully fenced yard for all adoptions. The reason she is being surrendered is that she will kill rabbits and probably cats. Separated, from her bother snowball the prey drive is not so intense, but together they will hunt. She has good indoor manners and would make a wonderful companion. We are seeking an experienced dog owner who can continue obedience training and have a lot of time to spend with her. please email katie@mybluedog.com for more information. Cayenne is located at Second Chance Ranch in Maple Valley, WA

Duke is a listing for the Clallam County Humane Society shelter. Duke came to the shelter as an owner release because they could not keep him. He is a neutered male, young adult, husky mix (he looks like a purebred Malamute to us in WAMAL) who is housebroke and good with kids and other dogs. He is a nice guy with some medical issues. He is currently on thyroid medication and doing fine. The previous owner brought in a years worth of medicine for him also. He is current on his vaccinations with a local vet.

You will have to be in great shape, or wanna be, to keep up with this exuberant guy. He LOVES to run, especially around the neighborhood, so a very secure fence or a roofed kennel run is a must for this boy. Sitka makes friends with almost everyone he meets, including children and all sizes of dogs. He gets along fine with even the most alpha females! He is not allowed to interact with the cats at his foster home, however he passed the cat test with flying colors, so he could probably learn to live with a kitty in the house.
Sitka tolerates his foster mom, but seems to prefer hanging out with the guys. He loves swimming, fishing (he will spend hours watching the fish in the pond), hiking (he will want 3 liters of water at the top of the mountain, so make him carry his own!!), riding in the car (especially if it is a truck), and of course getting tummy rubs.
Sitka looks like kind of a goofy guy in some photos, but he is very smart. He is very food motivated, so learns new things quickly. You gotta meet this boy to really appreciate him.
Sitka is currently being fostered in North Seattle, WA.

Nakita is such a beautiful striking girl! You just have to look at her a while just to take in what a gorgeous girl she is! Nakita is a quiet wellmannered girl that is young and playful. She keeps her kennel very clean and walks really well on a leash. She would love to go for long strolls with you! She has beautiful deep golden eyes that she likes to watch you with and light up when she is happy. Nakita will need a high fenced yard to keep her home and safe. We can't get over what an easy going girl she is and so easy to handle and care for. Nakita is estimated to be a young adult and weighs about 85 lbs. Come meet this beauty!

It sure sounds like he deserves a good forever home! Let us know if you think you can give this to Kenai. He is currently residing with his owners in Seattle.

Prince Griz appears to be a malamute in his prime, altho he may be older. He is canny and smart, watches to see how he should act, is reserved and tentative - and very dignified - but appreciative of attention when he is sure it is gentle and likes being brushed. He is doing quite well integrating himself cautiously into the pack at his foster home.
Griz howled when a siren sounded. And he howled when he first arrived at his foster home from fear and loneliness. It is a deep, almost subvocal, mournful, haunting sound which his foster parents are not hearing much of anymore and actually miss it.
Presently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

He also does very well with other dogs, tolerates cats but, like any malamute, if they run, he gives chase. He needs to be placed where he can get more attention and training than where he currently is. He will make a wonderful family member for someone with a lot of patience to help him become even better socialized. He is residing with his owners in Auburn, WA

Oso looks like a big lay-around huggable teddy bear and that's exactly what he is. But he is also always ready to go and he loves to play and run around with the female at his foster home. He has an easygoing disposition, accepts what comes his way, including the other dogs in the household, and just does not sweat the small stuff! He can be very loving when he wants but he is also quite independent and seems to always have an agenda and a plan.
He is housetrained and loves being part of the family. Getting some attention like coming in the house, going for walks, getting pets, et cetera are his new favorite activities.
Oso shows signs of neglect and seems very grateful for things that seem insignificant to us - a backyard to run in instead of a chain, a house to curl up in. Because of his neglect, Oso may have a special need. He appears to have suffered from chronic ear infection - which may continue - and has lost some hearing because of that. That all does not stop him from running up for food with the other dogs in the yard or checking out what is happening beyond the fence. Oso is generally a quiet dog although he can express himself when he wants something.
Oso is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA

Cisco is extremely sweet, affectionate and loving to humans and gets along very well with the Alaskan Malamutes in the yard...and those dogs are not the easiest to get along with!! In fact, the alpha male seems to have adopted him! We adore him and would keep him ourselves but our CAT Rufus said no, he is quite sure that Cisco will eat him.
Cisco is also extremely agile - with the siberian sproing! but has shown no escapist tendencies. He is playful, athletic and just cute as a button! He is a young guy, underweight , playful, gentle, strikingly beautiful coat, and a lovable, sensitive personality.
So if you are looking for looking for young, athletic (for hiking & running), gets along well with other dogs, loves people and is well mannered...Well, you can teach him manners!!
Cisco is being fostered in Cle Elum, WA

If you looked Gentle Giant up in the dictionary, you would see a picture of Monk! This 5-year-old x-large dog was transferred to us from Everett A.C. She is 115 pounds of pure sweet love. Monk is easygoing, gentle, well-mannered, and absolutely beautiful.
Monk is listed for the: The Humane Society for Seattle/King County
Bellevue, WA

Anna is currently residing in Kennewick, WA.

Trixie will play for hours with squeaky toys, but she does not seem to like toys that look at her--she will bite the eyes right off. She has had a bunny friend (always caged) and does not seem overly interested in cats.
Trixie appreciates the wide-open spaces of a fenced backyard and becomes very distressed when left confined alone in any way. She will work-non-stop to free herself from crates or kennel runs if her people are not in sight. Trixie would do best with a family where she is left alone for only short periods of time unless she has a buddy to share her yard. She does fine with SELECT male dogs of HER choosing, and you will always know within minutes if she has chosen to like a dog!
Trixie walks well on-leash, but has somehow gotten the idea that she should protect the person on the other end of the leash from other dogs. Therefore she cannot be trusted off-leash or around dogs she is not familiar with.
Trixie is her foster moms all-time favorite. In the right family she will be the perfect dog. Trixie is currently being fostered in the Seattle area.

Thunder is loving, good with people, loves to pull rollerbladers etc, submits to other dogs, friendly with all other dogs. Thunder is a neutered, pure white, 100lbs Male.
Thunder is being kenneled in Maple Valley, WA.

Update: Siska and Nanuk were adopted out together - Yippie! :)
Nanuk and Siska joined us from Yakima where their owner who loved them very much had become too ill to care for them. But the care they have received all their lives really shows! In fact, it shows about 20 lbs too much and these two are now on a diet.
Both dogs are very friendly, exuberant and happy about life. They do not challenge fences and seem to dig only to keep cool. They are very well mannered and happy-go-lucky (except when they are being bathed which they think is awful) and are said to get along with all critters. They are eager to please and were obviously beloved family dogs.
Siska and Nanuk could easily be adopted together. They would adjust well to a new home that way. They are easy to care for and have no bad history to overcome. They just need to be loved again.
Presently being boarded in Monroe, WA.

Luca is a sweet young girl in need of a family that will help her regain her athletic figure. She is a young girl so would be perfect for a family with an active lifestyle. She would also enjoy taking obedience classes with her new family to keep her intelligent young mind in shape as well! Luca rides wonderfully in the car and is a snuggler with adults. Unknown with other pets and children. She is spayed and all her shots are current. Luca is being cared for in Maple Valley. Pictures coming soon!

Sages owners would like to find him a new home as they do not feel that their lifestyle suits his needs. Sage is good with other dogs (he currently lives with a medium sized dog), he appears to be OK with cats, is good around strangers and good with children (currently lives with children - a 4 yr old and a 7 yr old). He knows some basic commands: sit, stay, come and shake and he walks well on leash. He will chase rabbits and birds. Sage is a big lovable guy who really likes attention and being at home. He does need a fenced yard as he will roam if given the opportunity. Sage currently lives in Port Orchard, WA.

Kiki is completely obedience trained (sit, down, stay, heel, up [into car], come) and has a very sweet personality with people. Kiki is very good on leash, too, and heels well. Kiki appears to be crate trained. Kiki was found as a stray, she was obviously someones pampered pet. She thinks she is a lap dog, although she needs to lose a few pounds! She is very affectionate and loving. Kiki can woo-woo some, but is not by nature a noisy dog at all. In fact, she did not make a peep the entire way to the boarding kennel and simply laid in the back and slept with no problem. Kiki loves riding in the car and seems to be very accustomed to it. Kiki knows how to behave quite well and is very well-mannered with people. Someone put a lot of time into this girls training and she will make a wonderful turn-key pet. The best home for Kiki would be as an only pet and without small kids.
Kiki is currently being fostered in Monroe, WA.

Ajax is tired of his great adventure now and wants to go home where he was obviously taken for walks on leash, had his own crate for traveling, his own kids to play with, probably some other dogs and maybe even a kitty. He knows about all of these things. He was found as a stray sitting with no collar under a sprinkler in 100 degree weather, he is a very smart dog!. :)
He gets along well with his foster familys dog pack, he is happy, playful and easygoing. When some local kids visited, Ajax made a beeline for them and he loved them. Ajax is housetrained, watches TV, plays whenever you ask him to, walks well on leash. He is well-mannered, loving, and well-socialized...just a great all-round dog!
Ajax is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

Tequila is a young happy girl who gets along well with other dogs and wants to play and please. She is being fostered in the Yakima area. Tequila is mostly malamute, fairly smooth coated now that she has shed her winter undercoat. She knows several commands and learns quickly

My name is Sasha! I was rescued from the Humane Society in Tacoma because my previous owner had dog allergies. I am a sweet mild mannered girl and ride really well in a car. I am reported to be not good with cats but do very well indoors as well as out.

Right now Akiya is a special needs girl.
She was taken away from her owners by Animal Control due to extreme neglect. She had been tied out in a field with grasses that burrowed through fur and underneath skin causing abscesses if left untreated. Akiya had abscesses all over her body One foot was so swollen she could not walk. Animal Control pulled out over 50 seeds from between 2 toes on that foot and the long fur on the backs of Akiyas rear legs and on the back of her tail had grown so tangled with weeds that they were matted together, pulling her tail down against her leg so that appeared crippled and was full of caught, dried filth
To save her, Animal Control had to shave her down to her skin. You can see from her face that she will be an exquisite dog in a few months. But in the meantime, we are a tad worried that the snows will come here in the mountains before her fur does!
From her first day here, Akiya played happily when loose in the yard with her male foster dog friend, Woolly. She seems quite healthy and happy when it is playtime, petting time or dinner time. She is not afraid or fearful, no signs of having been overtly abused.
But she would sure like a forever home where she can come inside if it is too cold or damp. Can you help?
Akiya is presently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA

Sugar Bear is as sweet as her name and then some! She is a warm, LOVING, lovely little lady who repays attention with even more love. She is the kind of dog who focuses on pleasing her human(s). Sugar Bear gets along immediately with dogs and all adults, she LOVES kids, she ignores cats in a cat-test environment - she seems made to be a family pet for people who want to fondle a gorgeous malamute coat. Someone has bobbed her tail though so when she gets excited, she waves her entire rear end! She is not an athlete... Sugar Bear will be content to be a homebody pet, ready for long or short strolls and curling up at your feet come winter.
Sugar-Bear is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

Dustees family can no longer keep him due to circumstances beyond their control. Dustee is a happy boy who is used to having a yard to roam around in. He is comfortable sleeping outside, but he definitely enjoys being in the house with his family. He knows some basic commands and walks well on leash. While waiting to be moved into rescue, he is currently living with a family that has 5 and 6 yr old children and he just loves them! Other little humans have also come over to play and Dustee enjoys playing with them as well. He also enjoys playing ball and going for walks. Dustee appears to have no problems with other dogs and would most likely do well with a female companion. If you would rather skip the terrible twos of puppyhood/young adulthood, then Dustee is the boy for you. He is calm, well settled, has no bad habits to speak of. He is a turn key boy just waiting for a family to call his own! Dustees shots are current and he will be neutered prior to joining his new family. Dustee will be cared for in Maple Valley, WA upon his arrival into rescue.

Rest In Peace little man, we'll see you on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
Update 10-29-2004: Cajun was negative for Leptospirosis. We still do not know if toxoplasmosis is still a possibility. He remains in very good spirits and reportedly likes this clinic very much. But his improvement seems to have plateaued for now. He has some leg movement, but still can not walk. We still do not have a definite diagnosis yet. A few more tests have been recommended by the emergency clinic doctors. The technician has scheduled the tests for tomorrow later morning pending approval (and funds) for conducting the two tests (Tic Panel and the sample of the spinal fluid). Exact costs at this time are not known, but believed to be somewhere between $300 to $400 to do both, which would include the laboratory analyses. Apparently, determining the results from these tests will rule out or rule in certain causes which will impact the course of treatment. We do not know the total of the bill so far. The clinic has been asked to give a discount for a rescue case or perhaps some pro bono care, we will see if that turns into a reality or not.
The doctor believes that Cajun can go home with his generous foster parents soon, but they will need to learn quite a bit of the details of his care before taking him home. It seems it would be better to have these tests done before he goes home with them, so they would not need to transport him back right away. The tests will take about a week to be analyzed. Cajun will still need a lot of help because he can not stand to go to the bathroom, and has to have his position turned regularly. Cajun has gotten quite attached to the staff there, and it may be hard for him to leave. The staff report that our good boy hates to be left alone, but we have a loving foster home waiting for him just as soon as we can get him discharged from the EC.
Tax Deductible Donations (we are a 501c3 charity) for his care can be submitted via our
account. Just specify that the funds are for Cajun in the Payment For field. Please include an address for any donations over $250 so that we may send you a receipt for your tax records.
10-24-2004: National Malamute rescue is assisting with some of the vet bills, but additional funds are still required to save this boy. Anything helps, no donation is too small<
EMERGENCY - 10/23/2004 - Cajun needs help!
Seattle, Washington:
Cajun - a beautiful, 3 year old white Malamute, is the kindest, most trusting, gentlest, and sweetest soul you could ever meet. This is truly amazing in light of the terrible neglect he has endured during his very lonely life as an outside dog, who was abandoned by his first owners when he was about one, and then temporarily cared for by their landlady for two years. Unfortunately, the years of neglect has left Cajun in a terrible condition with either an advanced infection or other disease that has paralyzed his back legs and does not allow him to stand on them. Cajun was rescued from this situation on Thursday, and has received care from 4 veterinarians since then. Even in this terrible physical situation, Cajun is alert, loving to eat and drink, and interested in all the hustle, bustle in the clinic. He really loves to be around people and is especially grateful for all the TLC he is getting. Cajun is really sad about the state his body is in, and wishes he could be better. Initial reports indicate that he may have a parasitic infection that could respond to antibiotics if given for at least two weeks. Unfortunately, the cost of the care and ongoing treatment in an emergency clinic has gone past $1,500, and his rescuers are not financially or physically able to do more.
At a minimum, Cajun needs foster care by someone, or a group of people, who could take care of him while his back legs are paralyzed. The Vets recommend a strong set of antibiotics for at least two to three weeks. The hope is to eradicate the infection, so Cajuns health will improve and maybe he can even regain his full strength and vigor once again. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee this will happen, as he is a very sick doggie right now. Only by trying to help and giving Cajun our love and the time to recover - will we ever know if this treatment will work. Additional tests such as a MRI and analysis of the spinal fluid could be done to rule out other causes, but this would be in the range of $1200 to $1800.
If you can help give Cajun a chance, which he truly deserves, or if you can donate some funds to help care for him, for a few days even, please contact us. Cajun weighs about 100 lbs, so lifting is an issue. Unfortunately, we need to decide this Sunday evening, at least if some help can be given for a few more days. Unfortunately, at around $300 per day at the emergency clinic, the original rescuers are at their limit however, it could be less if another less expensive clinic or a volunteer or group of volunteers could be found.
Thank you for your concern and help! Cajun is at a Seattle 24-hr emergency clinic.

Sarge - as he is now known - was picked up as a stray by the local shelter. He is a bit thin so will need some fattening up. He is a good sized boy, but appears to be very gentle. He has big soft brown eyes and a quietness about him. He had no problems spending time with other dogs at the shelter. He will need to be tested with cats and small children. Sarge would love a new family that will give him good memories to help erase the very sad look in his eyes right now. Sarge was recently neutered and is current on his vaccines. He is also microchipped. Sarge is being cared for in Olympia, WA.

Note from his evaluator at the shelter:
I WALKED HIM YESTERDAY AND HE LOVES THE TRAIL! FRIENDLY...ZERO AGRESSION TOWARDS ME AND HE IS LIVING WITH A KENNEL MATE (HEALER MIX-MALE-ABOUT HIS SIZE---JUST WAS KENNELED UP WITH HIM LAST NIGHT!) SO LOOKS LIKE HE DOES OK WITH OTHER DOGS.

Buddy is presently living with his owners in Mount Vernon, WA.

A volunteer was able to give him a wonderful walk yesterday and was optimistic about this handsome boys potential for adoption. A different volunteer visited him today and found him in severe distress and was able to get him the final care he needed. This is very hard on the folks in rescue but we have to take a small bit of comfort in getting him out of the shelter and into caring hands if even for a short time.
Here is what the owners left in a letter:
Buddy is 6 years old. He is good with kids but they should be older than 8 because he knocks smaller kids down due to his size. He has never bitten anyone. He likes to play wrestle.
Buddy likes to run and play. He is not good with small dogs because he overpowers them. He is very friendly and he talks to you. He is house trained. He also has basic training. He is a digger and digs to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. He also sheds a lot. He needs some more training and will dig to get out.Buddy needs someone to pay attention to him, love and play with him, and take him on walks.
Rest in peace Buddy, see you on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Malamute FOUND in Idaho, searching for owners!
Kol was recently found as a stray in the Snake River Canyon in Filer, ID (about 12 miles from Twin Falls). He is presently being cared for by his finder/rescuer Darlene.
He was taken to the vet Wednesday and he did great. He was scared to go in but he relaxed and was examined with no problems. She feels he is an adult. He had a sticker removed from his foot. His foot was bleeding a little when found. He weighs 80lbs the vets feels he should be 90 or 95lbs. He is eating two or three times a day right now. He had ear mites and so he has an infected ear. I am treating his ear and keeping an eye on his foot. When his foot heals I am planning to take him to a groomer as he is full of mats and stickers ( tail and back legs). He is a little itchy and the vet feels that is from a poor diet while he was lost. Darlene has left her name and number with the humane society in Twin Falls and Buhl and a rescue group in Filer in case anyone is looking for him. She has also put a lost ad in the local paper.
If anyone has a link to Kols owners please contact Darlene at either dsnyder@IDFG.STATE.ID.US or 208-326-3234.

Update: Flurry has been sponsored for the vet visit to the ophthalmologist for an injury to her eye that needs attention, we are still seeking a sponsor for food and boarding however.
Flurry is a senior girl who deserves to be loved and cared for. She has plenty of life to live.
Flurry has a beautiful red/golden long coat and a happy, mild disposition. She seems to get along with other animals - even cats. She showed mild interest to cats in the vets office - but really just left them alone. Update on cats, Flurry gets along PERFECTLY with the three dog savvy cats at her foster moms! She really has the most entertaining woo woo we have ever heard! It is not your typical woo woo - it really sounds like she is talking!! Everyone who hears her doubles over laughing!
Flurry is presently being fostered in North Seattle, WA.

Yukon looks like your typical malamute, except he has one blue eye. Therefore we feel he has Siberian Husky somewhere back there, but if that eye was brown you would be hard pressed to see that.
Yukon was picked up by WAMAL from the shelter. He has obviously been someones well fed pet. He will need some good nutrition but less of it. And a little running should take care of the extra weight. He is a very friendly boy with lots to offer someone who appreciates a more mellow companion.
Yukon seems to get along with all of the dogs he has met so far. Both male and female. He headed the other way when he accidently got tangled in leashes with another dog which growled at him and did not look like he would be the first one to start anything. He is very vocal. He rode well in the truck in a crate seemed quite calm, but made sure he talked about it the entire way from the shelter to the boarding kennel. He has one blue eye and one brown but the name Yukon is perfect for him. He looks like a dog you would see running in the Ididorod. The markings on the back of his head and shoulders are beautiful. When he has a bath and brushing he will be even better. He seems to know basic commands but definitely likes to lead the way on his walks.
Yukon is currently being fostered in Vancouver, WA.
Update from Yukons foster mom:
Yukon is a beautiful sweet huggy bear. He will lean against you and put his head in your lap. If you stop petting him he will put his big paw gently on your knee or arm to encourage you to continue. He will sit, lay down, shake, and come when told to. He is a settled but active boy. He is not a puppy but has several years of love to give. He is great with children and other dogs. He does not seem to be that interested in cats. He is half Husky and half Malamute. He is all sweetness.

Dancer is a typical young malamute. He is a sweet boy who is quite active and will continue to be so for another several years. He will not be a very large dog. We were told that he is under a year old. He will require a home that is familiar with raising a young malamute. Dancer also appears to get along with cats, having gotten practically nose to nose with a few at his foster home and just just wags his tail at them, no agression displayed at all. He is currently fostered in North Seattle, WA.

Rider recently came into rescue and is a great little man! Rider wiggled his way into the Siberian pen at his foster moms and proceeded to run around playing with all the sibes (about 50 of them!) all day. Rider has proven to be a really nice young boy. Rider appears to get along fine with kids. Unknown with cats. Rider loves to go on field trips, and is a perfect gentleman in the car and in a crate. This young boy wants nothing more that to run and play!
Rider is presently being kenneled in Maple Valley, WA.

Kal was picked up from the shelter at the same time as Yukon. He too needs some attention to his feed amount. Nothing a little exercise will not fix! Kal is said to be a dog who wants to be part of the pack. (Read, does not like to be relegated to the outdoors alone when everyone is home) He has probably been a family pet. He is another who would offer a lot to a family who wants a mellow companion.
Kal is friendly and playful with children. His last family had two, ages 3 and 5. He knows sit and stay and walks well on leash. He rode really well in the crate in the truck. He is unknown with cats and supposedly only good with female dogs, but he seems to be getting along with the others at the boarding kennel. Kal really, really wants to go to a new forever home. Volunteers visiting with him have noted that he tries everything he can to get in their truck when he is near it. Stands on the bumper looking in, etc etc. He is really happy to be out and walking and has demonstrated to walk very well on leash with not being a huge puller.
Kal is currently being boarded in Maple Valley, WA.

Rocky is a big happy boy. A loving soul brought him into her house after finding him as a stray, but unfortunately her two family dogs picked on him and she had to make the tough decision to give him up so he could have a happier, more relaxed home life.
According to his previous owner, Rocky enjoys chew bones and digging. He is also gentle, affectionate, playful and friendly. He is unknown with cats or children, although due to his size and energy, he could easily knock small children over purely by accident.
Rocky is now in a loving foster home in Kent and will soon be evaluated for possible hip dysplasia before being available for adoption.
Rocky is being fostered in Kent, WA.

This poor guy came into rescue after being found with a large percentage of his hide missing. The vets surmise that he was dragged behind a vehicle. He has undergone surgery to help set him up to heal (he was not seen by vet right away and some of the wounds were past being able to heal on their own so surgery was needed to take the dead hide away and close him up) We need funds to cover his vet bills and his boarding while he recovers. The good news is he WILL recover. We have named him Hardy, since he is such a resilient fellow. He will be available for adoption soon once he is recovered and has gained some weight and strength. The vet feels he should weigh about 80 or 90 instead of the 60 he currently weighs.
Update: A very generous offer to pay for Hardys $433 vet bill as been received, thank you Diana!
Hardy has been healing and is doing much better. Updated pictures are available in his photo album.

She gets along with other dogs her size, as she loves to play. With training and caution she could live in a house with small dogs and or cats, but a dog her size really does need a playmate more her own size.
Housebroken, kennel trained, and harness trained. She is good on a leash solo. If walking more than one dog it is a battle of the rotator cuff in which dog is in the lead.
Koda is living in Lacey, WA with her rescuers from her poor living environment. She awaits her new forever home that will give her the love and attention she needs, as well as the understanding needed to own one of these great dogs.
Koda is currently waiting for her new forever home in Lacey, WA.

Woolly is a gentle giant who puts us in mind of the Lollipop Guild in Oz as he looks rough and tough but is actually the biggest clown in the yard. He seems to be one of the old style Alaskan malamute dogs that were the workhorses of the Jack London era and is far and away the most playful malamute this foster home has ever had. In fact, he is his foster moms all-time favorite foster dog.
Woolly also seems to be quite good with small children, works to fit into the malamute pack here, ( but just loves those flirty girls!) and repays human love and attention with total devotion. He is not trained with cats as he is too interested - but will turn away when told NO firmly. Was not leash trained either but is learning his limits very quickly and easily.
Woolly has not challenged even a 4 1/2 foot sturdy fence, but that does not mean he is lazy or slow. He is a massive and powerful malamute!
He is now out of the hot sun and groomed and cleaned and dematted. And he is been great about it all! He has been uniformly sweet and biddable and, in fact, a little shy and scared about all these changes. He has been around other dogs and has done well with them. Woolly is patient and very very loving and oh-so-delighted to be able to do simple things like play loose in a pasture.
Woolly will repay your love and attention with total devotion.
Woolly is being fostered in Cle Elum, WA
UPDATE: Woolly has blossomed SO much in rescue. He had probably been chained out all his life and now just LOVES the backyard where he can run and play to his hearts content. He is VERY loving and turning into Mr. Personality.
He now has discovered:
