Update: Large Marge has been adopted by her foster family, and is in Malamute bliss! Thank you so much to all of our wonderful volunteers, we could never do this without you!

Loki is a beautiful purebred German born Alaskan Malamute that is named after the Norse god of mischief. He has many, many wonderful qualities, but he is not going to be a candidate for a home with kids, other dogs, or cats. Loki will never be an off leash dog when out on walks or hikes and will need an experienced Mal owner to be the alpha.
That said, Loki loves all people and loves attention. He has that great Malamute talk, but rarely barks. He loves walks, hikes, camping and car rides. Loki loves to please and knows commands like sit, shake, wait, leave it, roll over, speak, shut the door, kiss, outside, park, on the nose (he will balance the food until told okay!) car ride, bike ride, walk, toy, bathroom, treat and high five! Loki loves to lie around like a cat. He loves to be inside with his people, and prefers to lie quietly at the foot of the bed at night. He also sleeps well in a tent when camping.
If you think Loki is the perfect boy for you, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Loki is being cared for in Seattle.

Meet Braveheart, Skyona, Buddy and Flower.

Update as of 02-03-2007 - The Foster home for Braveheart, Skyonna and Buddy is in an area that has been particularly hard hit with weather this winter and has periodically been without power and phone. The dogs are doing well, adjusting to having more attention, getting healthier and learning to interact with people again. Braveheart is still very attached to Skyonna, though it appears she may not be as attached to him. We think that Braveheart will need to be with another dog in his new home, but not necessarily Skyonna. She has turned out to be quite the curious and nosy girl, getting into everything. Buddy, who their foster mother now calls Boone, has grown quite attached to his foster mother after the loss of Flower and experiences a lot of separation anxiety when left alone. He will need to be in a home where there is either a dog companion or a person with him all the time. It also seems that Buddy/Boone is what we call a 'wooly' malamute, as if their normal coat isn't furry enough! It appears he may have been shaved at one time and the coat never grew back properly. Now, with better food and care, all the dog's coats are growing back in much better condition and his is showing signs of the longer wooly top coat.
If you would like to contribute to our efforts please visit our DONATE FOR THE GOLDENDALE DOGS fundraising page. Any amount, no matter how small will help! For offers of labor, materials or transport please email WAMAL and we will coordinate those separately.
The remaining 3 Goldendale dogs are all being lovingly fostered in Oregon.

Magic is the perfect dog if you are looking for a great, mellow older Mal. He gets along really well with most dogs, and is great with kids. He is unknown with cats. Magic does not challenge a 5 foot fence, and although he does not like to be kenneled, he seems to want to spend some time in his crate. Once Magic settles into his new home life he will return your human love ten fold! It is the small things that seem so big to an Mal like Magic.
Are you the perfect new home for Magic? Please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Myrah is a stunning young malamute who is pretty sure the world is her oyster. She might just be right. She is an inside/outside girl, very used to living in a home. And she likes to be the canine queen of that home but she has played well in limited meetings with other dogs in the past. Still, we are thinking she will be a wonderful sole canine companion. Myrah epitomizes malamute behavior - powerful and active but loving and delighted to lounge around on the bed soliciting pets and belly rubs. She loves people and expects everyone to love her. And of course they do.
Myrah can leap tall buildings in a single bound. She will need secure containment but she is not focused on escaping unless she is after small feathered creatures. She has mastered some basic training, even including some hand signals, is pretty good with cats, exuberant meeting others, likes car rides, has gotten past basic puppy-chewing behavior and is crate trained. Because of her size, Myrah would probably best in a home without small children.
She is sweet, smart, ebullient, exuberant, gentle and SHE IS A LOVER. She is not a barker - does it only rarely. And does not talk much (yet?). Myrah is very focused on her human and will make her new person an incredible, classic malamute companion.
To meet Myrah or any of our other wonderful Malamutes, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Storm is a very handsome boy that is very friendly and loves attention. He needs a little TLC to get him looking his best, and could use some regular exercise and a good bath and brushing. He likes trotting along on walks, but gets winded easily as he is a bit out of shape. Storm likes to sing the blues and would love to be your best friend if you let him.
Storm is being fostered in Kennewick, WA

Big Bear has earned his name and is definitely for those of you who are looking for a very large companion! Bear is a 3 year old stunning boy who was surrendered because his owner died. He is extremely friendly, and loves people. Big Bear was an only dog so we are not sure yet how he interacts with other dogs or cats. He is in a foster home so we will know much more about him shortly.
If you would like to meet Big Bear or any of our other friendly Mals shown here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Big Bear is being fostered in Lakewood, WA

Kody family is moving and unable to take him with them. If you would like to meet this wonderful boy or any of the other beautiful Mals you see here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Keta is a beautiful big youngster with a lot of energy to burn. He is very puppy-like and extremely friendly. He is just a huge love bug! Keta is housebroken and is used to being left alone in the house for extended periods of time without any problems. He plays well with other dogs and has been raised with kids from the ages of 8-10 years old. Ketas former owners did not have cats, so he will need a slow and careful introduction. Keta is brand new to rescue so we will know more about his personality as soon as he is in his new foster home. If you would like to meet Keta or any one of our other gorgeous Mals, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Keta is being cared for in the Seattle area.

Aspen is a gorgeous girl who loves to run. Her family has moved to a house without a fenced yard where she has to be tied out. They want to find her the life they feel she deserves. She is extremely active, full of energy, and she wants to be friends with every human she meets.
She is extremely smart and very sweet, loving and affectionate. Aspen is just full of happiness and life! She is house trained and knows her basic commands such as sit, lay down, off, and shake. She is used to spending her days outdoors and her nights in the house. Aspen is excellent with children, great with medium and large dogs, but not good with small dogs or cats.
If you think you may be Aspens new forever home, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Aspen is being cared for by her family in Edmonds, WA.

Tantris is house-trained and has been to puppy obedience classes. He sits, lies down, and minds his manners very well, but other things like Come and Drop it, tend to be the usual Malamute hit or miss. He understands No, but if he thinks he can get away with something, he will try. Tantris will need a securely fenced yard. He has gotten out due to doors being left open, and once he is out, he is gone. He does not do well with other male dogs, and he has not really had much contact with females. He would probably prefer to be an only dog.
If you would like to meet Tantris or any of our other beautiful Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Tantris is being cared for in Snohomish.

If you would like to meet this beautiful girl, or any of the other available Mals shown here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

She may enjoy being an only dog, or she may just be a little picky about her dog friends. She gets along well with the young child in her current home, but should always be supervised with young children because of her size. She has never lived with, and is unknown with cats. Niesha wants to find a forever home where she will be pampered. Are you her new family? If you would like to meet Niesha please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Chief is a big, goofy gentle boy and a big love. He enjoys his bones and treats, and loves his toys. He still needs work on a leash but is getting better during long walks with his foster mom. Being in a house is a new experience for Chief, and he is slowly getting used to the idea. Once inside he likes to snuggle and will lay next to you calmly. Chief is not a barker, but does not like to be left home alone. He will need a secure yard with a 6 foot fence.
If you would like to meet Chief or any one of our other amazing Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Tahoe is a real cutie! He is a very nice, happy, sociable boy. He loves to go for walks, and does not pull too terribly bad, but he does not seem to have much practice walking on a leash. Tahoe is on the small side if someone is looking for a Mal but would like one that is a little more compact.
If you would like to meet Tahoe or any of the other beautiful Mals seen here, please submit an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Tahoe is being cared for in Kent, WA.

Yukon is one very handsome boy. Known by his former owners as the Gentle Giant, he is big and beautiful and is just a goofy lovable guy. Yukon is very mellow and knows his place in the pack. He has great basic training, but could really use a brush up. Yukon would love to be with an active family during the day, then curl up by a quiet fireplace at night. Like all Malamutes, Yukon would love to wander if given the chance, so would do best with a securely fenced yard. Yukon has never lived with cats or small animals.
If you would like to learn more about Yukon and his great Malamute qualities, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Jingles is a beautiful, loving, trusting, playful pup about one year old. He loves to run along side a bike using a Springer. He has the desire to go, go, go....he would consider it his pleasure and a joy to pull anything including you on your cross country skies or sled. Jingles loves to play ball, loves to ride in the car and loves to go anywhere...hates to be left behind. He knows all of the basic commands like sit, stay and lay down.
Jingles is great with older kids as long they are old enough to tell him NO. At his young age he can get over-excited and jump up, so he is not a good candidate with young kids. Jingles is unknown with cats.
Jingles is housebroken but still needs supervision around your kitchen counter tops. Do not leave anything out that you do not want to disappear! He will sleep beside your bed but would happily join you in bed. A secure fenced back yard is a requirement for him because of his strong love of life and interest in everything around. He will roam if he can.
If you would like to meet Jingles please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

A note from Tank's foster mom. Tank is an awesome young puppy. He's a breeze to have as part of the family. He is crate trained, riding in a crate in the car and sleeping in one overnight. As he is so young, we are still in the process of solidifying house training, but he is doing excellent. I am taking him just about every where with me, so he will get used to many different situations. He is currently living with cats and two other dogs. He likes to try to chase the kitties, but they usually ignore him. It's more of a game, but he will need to be watched as he matures so it doesn't turn into something more dangerous. He is also around children of many different ages on a regular basis.
If Tank is stealing your heart then you need to be ready for a Mal puppy! If you would like to meet Tank or any one of our already trained Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Have you noticed how many of Ember's pictures are blurry? This is because the boy is never still when he is in the yard, until he wears his little wiggle-worm self out.
Ember is a delight. A youngster with a sunny, sparkly disposition, beautiful coat and head, extra long legs and a big smile almost all of the time. He gets along well with the males and females - although he really wants to be left alone when he is eating. And no wonder - this boy needs to add at least 20 pounds.
He doesn't know a thing. He has no manners. But he has a soft, loving way about him and will love to learn. And if you already have one, or even two dogs and are thinking about a youngster to rev them up, Ember is your boy!

Here are truly awful pictures of a real sweetheart of a dog, Lovey-Dovey. Honest to goodness, that is the name she came with. And the dog matches the name.
LD is less than a year old. We think she is 80 percent malamute. There are only a couple of subtle things that are not malamute about her.
Personality? She really does match her name. She has been in a country rescue for 2 months and gets along with everyone. She was hit by a car and scraped up - no other injuries or broken bones or anything like that. Just her face scraped up so she played with a big pack while her face healed. She is all healed and ready for a home.
She is SUCH a puppy. You know, the flop on the back, petme-loveme type. She is an excitable little wriggly girl. And so smart! LoveyDovey will love learning whatever you want to teach her! She came from a family situation so we would feel quite comfortable placing her in a family situation. She is also not an escapeartist and that small percentage of non-malamute that is most likely there seems to make her more of the type of dogs that sticks to your side like glue. Still, a fence will be required - we want no more accidents for this adorable puppy.
Lovey-Dovey is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA

What a sweet girl! Annabelle is very calm and loving. She loves treats, dog bones and stuffed toys. She will roll over for you so you can give her tummy rubs, and just wants lots of love. Annabelle enjoys going for walks and walks well on leash. She was rescued from a shelter so we have no information on how she gets along with kids or cats yet. She seems a little timid around barking dogs, but she's still just a pup so she may just be intimidated a bit right now.
If you are looking for a young, healthy, beautiful girl like Annabelle, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Aspen is a handsome, affectionate and mellow boy who loves to be petted. He enjoys going on walks, and walks well on leash. He seems to enjoy himself and ignore other dogs. Aspen has been kept on a chain in the past, and would now love to have his own fenced yard to play in. He may also like a playmate his own size to keep him happy. Aspen came from a shelter so we do not have any background on how he is with children or cats. Aspen is looking for a loving family that would give him all of the attention and daily walks he deserves.
If you think Aspen sounds like a great fit for your family please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Kaya is a sweet baby girl.
Like all malamute puppies, she will become a big, boisterous loving but exuberant young malamute before you can shake a stick. Kaya still has the unique puppy smell. Malamute puppies are a challenge and a joy She was well cared for and loved in her original home, lived with a brother puppy and was trained by her owners. She is also well cared for, loved and in puppy training in her foster home. She may already be housetrained and we are checking on that. She is well socialized people and other dogs.
She is bewildered by all of these changes but loves to play and bounce back beautifully. She already has a sweet, sad howl when she is frightened. Kaya has never been alone so she needs to be part of a family.
Kaya is being cared for in Yakima, WA

Cooper, a huge boy, is better known as Gigantor in his foster home! He is a great dog with a great disposition. He does well with kids and seems to be getting along fine with the other dogs and a very stealthy cat at his current home. Cooper loves his food! Meal time is a favorite time of the day, but he manages to maintain control and is very polite while his foster dad BBQ's chicken for the family. Cooper is happy to go on his walks, and walks well on leash, especially considering his size. He also likes being brushed and playing tug of war.
If you can handle a big dog like Cooper please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Cooper is being cared for in Spokane, WA.

Up until now Nanook has been living by his own set of rules. He needs an experienced Malamute household who will teach him what NO means. He has played with kids in his former household, but will need to be closely supervised at all times. He is unknown with cats. Nanook is waiting for just the right home to help him learn human rules.
If you would like to meet Nanook or any of our other beautiful Mals seen here, please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Skeeter-Bug update:
This youngster is a barrel of fun. She is a tomboy, She LOVES to fetch, she LOVES to run around, she LOVES playmates, playmates, she is interested in everything. Until she gets a bone - then she runs into her house and peers out as if to see who is coming to steal it! Skeeter/Skadi is boisterous, wanting to play much more than to be petted. She can hardly contain herself. But in sunny afternoons, she can laze around like an old hound. Her foster mom believes she is very bright - she wants to know what is going on around her and wants to be near the action. Once we had a hotwire class here, the 4' chain link fence has contained her (although like all fosters here, she is kenneled nights and whenever foster mom is away. She considers her kennel to be home so that is not so bad.) Foster mom has never had a dog to play fetch with. Skeeter loves it. She is a hoot.
If you would like a high energy girl to join you in running, hiking, biking and playing in the mountains, Skadi may just be the girl for you. If you are interested in meeting her please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Skadi is being cared for in Cle Elum, WA.

Spirits Red Rose is in a bit of a daze. She wants to do whatever she is supposed to but is not quite sure what that is. She is bewildered by all of the changes in her life. But she does like having these yards and her own blanket. She looks around as if to say - What is this? What is that? oh, I like this grass, And this cool concrete. And this soft blanket.
It is hard to understand how a sweet senior like this can be found as a stray. Her teeth looked awful but they cleaned up beautifully. Her eye looked awful but it turned out to be an old injury. She had a tumor but it was only a fatty tumor. She is actually in pretty darn good shape and has a thick plush coat that will be stunning as soon as she is well enough for some grooming.
And what a happy, easy, easy undemanding girl she is. Stays in the 3-foot fenced front yard, Old Folks Home. No trouble at all with the malamute pack here, and no sound out of her - none - yet. Of course, once she figures out just how much she can get away with, that may change. There are glimpses of mischief and stubbornness - thank goodness - but that basic sweetness and gratefulness seem to be built into this lovely dog.
Spirit Rose is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

This young girl is adorable. She will run right up to you at full speed and flop over on her back all in one motion just to get a belly rub.
Not the largest of Malamutes but still fairly tall. She weighs in at about 80 pounds and likely will add a few more over the next several months. She is short some hair due to a recent pregnancy and improper diet but her coat is starting to come back in and she will look outstanding when it does.
She is very good with food showing no protection issues and takes treats gently even from my 5 year old son.
She understands sit, down and no sometimes but only uses her understanding when it suits her. She does well in the kennel when she has to be kenneled however she generally has the run of the yard and has been good when left out all day. Sapling trees should be wary of her though.
This loving girl is house trained and routinely stays in for 8 to 9 hours at a time and has over more than a month never had an accident inside the house. She gets along great with kids but can be a bit pushy for attention so little kids will need supervision around her.
She walks well on a leash with an adult and my 10 year old daughter. She generally ignores other dogs she meets while on a walk. She also does a good job of ignoring the neighbors dogs. She is generally very quite, seldom talks and almost never barks.
She gets along well with male dogs that are her size. For over a week she was housed with/around a 12 year old Siberian male who was comparable to her height although a little lighter and she was quite respectful of the old guy. One note to this is that this was about the only time that she barked or talked excessively and it was always during feeding time and they were always fed separately.
She has never really challenged the fence here although with enough motivation she might, she is interested in squirrels and cats and has managed to tree several squirrels but as of now has not quite been fast enough to catch one.
She would really like an active home with kids.
Miyah is being cared for in Richland, WA

Kihei can be reserved and shy when you first meet him but once he determines he is saif, he is a complete love - the Flop-on-the-back-for-Belly-rubs type of dog.
He is a gorgeous young dog who needs to fill out some. Tall and lanky but with big snowshoe feet and and active and curious nature. He loves to play, like most of our youngsters, and is good with dogs of both sexes. One of his photo album pictures shows him with his foster mom and playmate.
Kihei has a great coat for snow and will be a wonderful companion for outdoor activites - truly wonderful. And he has this one magical thing - he does not walk or trot. He floats.
Kihei is currently being fostered in the Bellingham, WA.

Meet Conrad, the active, playful eager youngster. Conrad has to find a new home because his owner has joined the Army and will be going to boot camp. He has been in his current home since 8 weeks of age. Conrad loves to be where the people are and the action is. He loves to play keep-away soccer, go on rides in the car, go to the lake and run along side you when you go biking. He is just a go, go, go dog who would love camping, hiking and snow activities.
Conrad is housebroken and loves his cat sister. He gets along with other dogs, and would need to be supervised around children as all mals should, because of his high energy level. He is looking for a home where the Alaskan Malamute is loved and understood.
If you think you have the high energy lifestyle that Conrad needs, or if you would like to meet any of the other dogs shown here, please fill out an application and we will contact you as soon as possible for your home visit.

Dakota is a very, very sweet boy that is full of energy and get up and go! He knows all the basics such as sit, shake, lay down, take nice, he takes treats very gently, and the Malamute stay...when he feels like it. He loves his ears and tummy scratched and will fetch a ball if not distracted. He rides very well in the car and sometimes leans around and gives you a kiss. Dakota is new and just out of the shelter so we don't know how he is with kids or cats yet. Until we find a foster home for him he is kenneled next to Annabelle, a female Mal, and they seem to get along just fine.
If you would like to meet Dakota or any of our other beautiful Mals here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Nana is a strikingly beautiful new youngster that is looking for a loving family to call her own. She has lost her home due to her elderly owner no longer being able to care for her. Nana is AKC registered, and about as sweet and friendly a Mal as you will ever meet. She loves kids, loves walks and has a beautiful howl. Nana has lived with cats, but will need a careful introduction as she has shown interest in the cats at her foster home. She is also slowly meeting the dogs in her new surroundings and seems to be doing fine with them, even wanting to play a little. Nana needs some work on leash as she is extremely strong and likes to pull. She knows basic commands, is housebroken, and has always been a house dog.
Is Nana your new forever friend? If you would like to meet Nana please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Sydney is a sweetheart, her nickname around her foster home is Princess. She is very talkative, and loves people unconditionally. She likes to go for walks, car-rides, play fetch, give hugs and dance. Thats right, dance! She especially loves children, and if she encounters a group of them she will sit in the middle of the group and soak up all the love and pets she can get.
As for other animals, she is very alpha, and has a very strong prey drive. She will need a home with no cats and no smaller dogs. In fact Sydney would like to be an only dog. She prefers to be outdoors, with an occasional short visit into the house. Her health is very good, especially considering her age. Her hips give her a little trouble, so no stairs for her.
She can be very stubborn and demanding, especially around dinner time, hence the nickname princess. She does not dig, except to make her den, nor does she challenge fences. She will take advantage of any open gates though, and go walk-about.
Sydney is being cared for in Seattle, WA. If you are interested in meeting Sydney, please submit an application and we will get your homevisit scheduled ASAP!

Update: Shebas foster mom wants everyone to know that this young lady is IN LOVE with Children!! She absolute came alive when she encountered a group of three children, the youngest aged 3. She wagged her tail uproariously, talked continuously, licked hands and was most age-appropriate even with the 3 year old. She was so subdued after they left, that her foster mom thinks she might be MOST happy with children in her life. As with all dogs, she should never be left alone with the little ones, but Oh!, what a wonderful lifetime dog she would make for some lucky child!
Sheba is a gentle, quiet, girl. A lover, not a fighter, she has a slightly reserved demeanor that tolerates small dogs and large dogs in groups, but really would prefer you all to herself or maybe with one other canine companion. Cats are unknown. She is far from an alpha, and displays submissive behavior around most dogs.
Sheba has the most beautiful soulful eyes. Sheba is a fast learner, conquering healing while on her walk in a matter of minutes. She is housebroken with regular potty breaks, returning to the exact same spot every time. She likes beef rib bones & has a gentle mouth to receive treats. She is good with older kids, and if you want to steal her heart give her a greeting with an opened mouth smile. Sheba loves brushing and combing with a paddle brush and a dog comb, and also her sherpa cushion to sleep on. Mostly she loves lots of stroking of her soft, silky coat while she lays at your feet.
Sheba would work well for a single adult, or family with older children, and is definitely not an outdoor girl. An apartment, or condo is possible, or home with yard would suit her just fine too.
If you would like to meet Sheba and give her a forever home with lots of love, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Sheba is currently being fostered in Puyallup, WA.

Reno is a middle-aged, calm, sweet AKC registered Giant Alaskan Malamute female who has spent the majority of her life tethered on a 20 foot lead in a backyard. She is now excited to have a second chance at a future full of fun and love. We have plenty more to learn about Reno, but we do know that when she first came into rescue she was quite comfortable with a 3-dog pack in her temporary foster home. She traveled well in the car and relaxed with the others in the house.
Are you the lucky person that will give this beautiful Giant her new forever home? Please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Yoda is all puppy at heart. This little guy melts your heart with his big smile and goofy run. He loves to play with people and dogs alike. With loving care from his foster mom and her pack Yoda has learned his house manners, knows basic commands, and rides very well in the car.
Unlike most Mals, Yoda does well at the dog park and tolerates little dogs. He is unknown with cats, but loves to chase squirrels and any other fast moving backyard creatures.
Yoda is the perfect balance of wanting to be active, loving to play, and being happy to hang out at home as well. This boy just loves life!
If you would like to meet Yoda or any of the beautiful Mals you see here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Buddy is great with other dogs, and loves to let out a bark or two when he's ready to play. He is in a new foster home where he is getting used to using the stairs, and he's coming around to the elevator too. Buddy loves to go on walks and play with his furry friends. He has shown to be good in the house unsupervised, and is happy to be an indoor dog until an outdoor play time comes along. Buddy was dropped off at the shelter by owners that could no longer care for him. He is unknown with cats or kids, but like we said, he seems to love other dogs.
Buddy will make a good older mellow dog for someone who likes to relax and take a short walk every day. If you would like to meet Buddy, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Buddy is being cared for in Seattle, WA.

Taska (formerly LingLing) is a delightful, joyous young girl. She is tall, lithe, agile and fast. She is very loving with people she meets, and is wonderful and is very well behaved in the house. Taska is very energetic and appears to be too boisterous for small children. She is picky about her doggie friends, and is not a candidate for a house with cats or other small furry or feathered creatures. Taska needs work on her leash manners, so will benefit from some obedience classes. She should be a fast learner since she is very responsive to love and affection. Taska has a gorgeous sable coat, big snowshoe feet and a head that is now too big for her slender body. She will fill out and grow into that head and will be a stunner. If you would like to meet Taska or any of our other beautiful Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Update May 2008:
Tillman is ready for his forever home. He is doing fine at his foster home but his foster mom says it would be unfair for her to keep him. His leg is doing great and he is ready to resume his incredible magic counter cruising act - which we have yet to figure out.
He is still as sweet as ever.
Since he is an adult and not some hyperactive puppy, we do not believe he will tear his other ACL.
Tillman will remain in Dayton, WA during the next few weeks as he still needs follow-up care from the vet, suture removal, et cetera. Then our foster homes will fight over who gets him and where Mr. Tillman will spend his Summer Vacation. LOL
Tillmans face makes him look like an elderly overweight dog but a closer investigation tells a different story. Tillman is not overweight - in fact you can feel his ribs and spine. And he is not elderly. He has an overdeveloped chest because he has a knee that has no doubt been bad for some time. Constant pain makes him look older than he is.
Tillman is SOOOOOOO sweet. He is fully as sweet as his face. He will follow you around like a puppy. He does not want to be alone and does not need to be. He is one of those rare mals who could live with a 2 foot fence. He will just plain not leave people who love him and he asks so sweetly to be loved.
But first, Tillman needs knee surgery. And he needs a place to recuperate. Surgery is not cheap! We have a donor angel who will assist but, well, surgery is not cheap. He has an appointment at WSU in early April.
We also need to find him a place to recuperate, with no stairs. That same helper will recuperate him at her home but she has so many dogs and fosters in the summer that another home where he could get more attention might be better. But beware - this dog is hard to give up. See that happy face? That face PERFECTLY describes sweet Mr. Tillman. He is a gem.

We will post more here as we learn more about Prius.
If you would like to find out more about Prius, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

His owner had a farm and when they moved to town they could not keep him any longer. This gentleman is housebroken and good with other dogs, playful and puppy-like, but cannot be around kitties (fairly typical of his breed). While Barnabus is particularly stunning and beautiful, we'd prefer a Malamute experienced home or to someone who has an understanding of this breed's special requirements.
Barnabus is BIG! He is 83 pounds, and stands about 30' tall at the shoulder. He was neutered on 8/6/08, and can be adopted any time. If interested in adopting this handsome dog, please contact Yvette at A Paw Up Rescue www.apawup.petfinder.com
Barnabus is being cared for in Prosser, Wa which is about 2.5 hours east of Seattle, but as soon as you see this dog you will be glad you made the trip. HE IS GORGEOUS!

Gordo loves to be indoors with his owners, resting on the sofa or in your lap if you'll let him! And without a doubt he is at his very best in the outdoors, especially in the winter, this is his favorite time of the year. He would enjoy any outdoor activities you like, especially if they include snow. He will do fine in the summer as well, as long as he has plenty of water and a shady place to relax and daydream.
Gordo's brother just got adopted so he is very lonely and is eagerly awaiting his new forever family. If you would like to meet Gordo please fill out an adoption application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Meet Chaz - a very big Malamute-X who lost his home through no fault of his own when his owner moved to a small home with no yard. He is about 6 years old and very LARGE. Chaz is very sweet and likes hugs and attention from anyone as he is a big lover. He can even get goofy and playful in short bursts of energy but prefers walks as his form of exercise. Due to his size he would do best in a home with older or no children. He is a bit dominant with other dogs but does fine when they are more submissive. He may prefer to be an only dog. No kitties for him as he thinks they are snacks! Chaz is neutered, micro chipped and UTD on his shots.
If interested in meeting this big handsome lovable guy please contact Kootenai Humane Society in Hayden, ID. 208-772-4019

Marley is a Malamute Lover's Malamute. He is a classic.
He has now been in foster care in Cle Elum for a couple of weeks and his foster mom has fallen hard. She says Marley is one of those she would not give up if she could give him the home he deserves. He has so many cool malamute ways that he is a pleasure to live with.
Marley is just an all around great dog - we are not sure he has ANY bad habits. The worst we can find to say about him is that he has sad St-Bernard-type eyes And boy does he use them to get attention - along with his great WooWoo discussions when it is time for dinner, or time for pets, or, well, you get the picture.
Marley is easy to live with. He is loving and lovable. He knows some commands and is clearly experienced living in a family environment. He loves people, loves to be petted - he often requests affection and obviously appreciates it with a big gentle-but-knock-you-over-malamute-lean. Like most mals, he is not pesky about asking for attention, but he seems relieved to have someone hold him and stroke his smooth summer coat. He may have gone through some tough times. That coat, by the way, will most likely be gorgeous come winter; he should be a great trail dog in snow, rain, fog or shine.
Marley is built like a powerful male but is still fun to walk, he can pull and he has that powerful malamute gait at times but in his foster home he is being happily walked by a senior citizen. He gets along well with other dogs and is very good in the house.
This boy is just the coolest. If you like malamutes, he is well, well worth meeting.
If you are interested in meeting Marley or any of the other wonderful Malamutes on our site, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Meet Shiloh. She is a 9 month old, all white Malamute. She was very shy and unsure of the world when she first came into our care but with the love of a foster family she has really gained confidence and come into her own. She has a great foundation of obedience training. She knows sit, down, shake, and does a very impressive stay and wait for a Malamute.
Shilohs ideal home will either be one where she is with her owner most of the time or one where she is matched up with a male doggy friend that can keep her company and help her burn off some of that puppy energy.
If you would like to meet Shiloh or any of the other gorgeous Malamutes shown here, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

This is Juneau, a very big girl with a heart of gold who loves to give kisses and lots of love. She is very sweet and although she was raised as mainly an outdoor dog, she loves nothing more than to come inside and lay with her family. Juneau's current family can no longer keep up with her and offer her the attention she needs, so are looking for a loving, active home for her where she will get the exercise she needs to be happy. Juneau would be a perfect dog for any outdoor activities like jogging, hiking and snow sports, and would love a very active household. She loves kids, but will need additional training to learn not to jump up and will have to be closely supervised when around them. She doesn't know she weighs 110 lbs. Juneau is housebroken and knows basic commands such as sit, stay, come, down and heel. She lives with a cat but chases it and also chases birds and squirrels. She has a high prey drive and may be best in a home without small animals.
If you have the active lifestyle that Juneau is looking for, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Do you have the time and energy for a Malamute puppy like Ash? She's eagerly awaiting her forever family, so please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Ash is being cared for in Selah, WA.

Monte has been adopted by his caretakers. He has Malamute Mommy who cooks for him and Siberian Mommy who has primary custody. Monte is one of those mals who thinks he is Tough Guy. He swaggers (or is it staggers) over to Malalamute Mommies pack and growls and postures while Mommies roll-on-the-floor-laughing.
But Monte plays beautifully with sibe Sanctuary Pack. And he is thriving on Mal Moms cooking, which was the main concern. We now look forward to several years with this hauntingly beautiful dog.

BIG Bobbi was dropped off at the shelter as a victim of divorce but is now lucky enough to be in a foster home getting lots of love and a much needed diet and exercise program while she awaits her new forever family. Her foster family reports that she is a real sweetie that follows them everywhere they go, and loves to sleep in the bedroom with them. She snores! She met and played with a Greyhound the other day, and so far has not bothered the cats. She is starting a walking program along with a a vet recommended diet in order to lose the approximate 50 lbs she needs to lose! She will be even more beautiful and playful once she slims down a little.
If you would like to meet Bobbi or any of the other fun loving Malamutes you see here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Bobbi is being cared for in Renton, WA.

Strider is a big beautiful baby boy, with a beautiful woowoo. Maybe not quite a baby - and he is past the puppy hyperactivity stage, but he is playful and truly just all puppy in his view of life. Everything is cool, all dogs must surely want to play with him, aint this walk just the greatest and hey - what is that? A horse you say? Sure it is not my big brother? Bet he wants to play too!!
Strider gets along with all of the dogs around him, loves to be petted, grins incessantly and not only knows some basic commands but actually does them. And he loves to play; he has turned his foster moms yard into a nice big play yard every cool morning and evening. He can even talk the crotchety oldsters into playing.
This boy had a rep as an escape artist but his foster mom has 4' fences and he has not tried to go over them - since he learned about the hotwire on top of them. Hasn't tried to dig out either but we believe that is mostly because he has playmates here in the yard. More fun to stay home!
If you would like to meet Strider or any of the other great Mals seen here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Strider is being cared for in Cle Elem, WA.

Light Brown, almost-white face. Collar, no tag. Slept in my lap coming home but is very scared and probably holed up somewhere.
I have looked, called neighbors, called the sheriff, putting flyers up in the neighborhood and alerted local rescue resources. Everyone in this neighborhood pretty much knows that husky-type dogs are mine.
If you are in this area please keep an eye out.

Koda will be celebrating his first birthday on October 28th and he is one happy well adjusted boy! Koda came into rescue with his brother Yukon who is also available for adoption. He is the more laid back of the two. Koda will need some basic obedience training and especially some leash training. Right now he pulls like a freight train! The boys seem to have a high prey drive so would probably do best in a home without cats. Koda is looking for an active family who loves to spend time hiking, camping and playing in the snow.
If you have the energy level to keep up with a youngster like Koda, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Whoa, a female malamute who has lived with many cats! What a rarity that is!
Angel offers a whole lotta luvin! She is just the sweetest thing, and truly loves her quiet times just getting loved on. She will try to get as close to you as possible and lean over to give you an occasional, I am loving this and please dont stop kiss! She is the kind of girl who just loves sitting with you under a shady tree in the park just taking in everything around her. She has lost some weight while in rescue, and could use daily walks and a regular exercise program to get her back to her ideal size.
Angel is great on a leash and really does know her commands such as sit, stay, down and shake. She listens really well and seems to be pretty focused and a fast learner. She is a gentle girl who has lived with other dogs, many cats and even a few baby squirrels at one point! We would have to call her one mellow mal. Angel is homeless due to the sudden passing of her owner, and we think she will bond quickly to her new forever family.
Can you offer Angel the love she is looking for? If you would like to meet Angel or any one of the other beautiful Mals shown here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Angel is being cared for in Cle Elum, WA.

Yukon wants a very special present for his first birthday on October 28th. A forever family!! Yesterday we could have sworn he was whistling Hey, Hey we are the Monkeys while on his walk with a volunteer, and once back to his kennel we noticed he had slipped a personal ad under the gate for us. It reads like this:
Very photogenic young buck looking for fun, friends, parties and partners in crime. I look especially good up to my elbows in the snow, so please be prepared to take me there to play. Prefer family who loves to walk, hike, snowshoe, cross country ski or sled. I am not an outdoor only boy, so a nice fluffy dog bed in the living room would be much appreciated. I dream of a home with a big fenced yard so I can run and play and chase squirrels, hopefully even with a brother or sister! My social life sucks recently so I will be expecting to be signed up for, and attending beginning obedience classes immediately. Oh, and cats are not a part of my life currently and I see them as animated chew toys, so if you have one be prepared to keep us separated at all times. Kids seem like lots of fun too, but I am into doing a lot of dancing right now so I have to be careful I do not knock the small ones over when I get too happy. Come meet me soon! Love, Yukon XXXX. (Then he drew a funny stick figure of a dog pulling what looked like a sled)
Can you make Yukons first birthday party? If you would like to meet him or any of the other beautiful Mals you see here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit asap.

This is the dog that your children will fall in love with. And she will adore all of her new family. Chanel lives to please. She wants to be petted and to crawl into your lap so you can pet every square inch, rub her belly and snuggle every single inch of her warm wiggly self.
And although she is not so good at jumping on furniture, if you are at her level she is wonderful lap dog. She is small not a lightweight and on a very strict diet because of that - but she is just small. In body, that is. Not in spirit!!
Chanel is a sweet, happy playful baby but not hyper. She will, however, play with you anytime you choose to engage her. She is SO happy to be let into the yard each morning; she just grins and bounces and races around the yard. Then heads for the house, where she is a great house dog, amazing in such a young girl.
Chanel could make a very good family dog. She is a bossy little thing with other dogs (ok with boys) and is overly food oriented now (due to her diet?) but just adores being with people. She elicits love and needs gentle handling.
Chanel is a just a tiny bit of a special needs dog. She has abnormal hocks and this probably means she will not be a candidate for long running or long hikes. Wamal will have her re-assessed once her weight is down to see if she actually needs any help and will work with you on that, if need be.
But Chanel thinks she is practically perfect right now. And so do we. If you are looking for a big malamute heart in a small package, Chanel is your girl.
Chanel is being cared for in Cle Elum, WA.

One look at his huge smile and you just know he is thinking, High-five partner, and back atcha! What is on todays agenda? Noble wants to know! Walk, run, SNOWSHOE? Yeah, wag wag, yeah, lets play in the snow today! Beer and football? He does that too. In fact his favorite team is, um, he says he wants to tell you himself, but wants to add that he is a handsome devil and looks good in all team colors. He does not care what is going on, he just wants to be included, he is not an outdoor only boy.
Noble has his own special Malamute howl. He has a beautiful Woo Wooooo, followed by a very deep Woof. He walks great on leash, loves to sniff everything, and leaves lots of messages for the next dog coming his way. He is incredibly friendly, happy and easygoing, and has a perfect soft coat. We have not figured out yet if Noble needs his basic obedience (sit, stay, down) or if he is pretending he is deaf. Either way, he would benefit from some touch up training and would love to put some classes on his agenda.
If Noble sounds like the boy you have been waiting for please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Noble is being cared for in Kent, WA.

Zoe is a beautiful girl who would love a very active lifestyle and some consistent training. She is up for hiking, biking and snowshoeing. Zoe has learned some basic commands in training class and would love to continue her classes just to brush up.
Once Zoe is in the house all she wants to do is crawl up on your lap for love an petting. She forgets she is not a lap dog, but she is just a huge cuddle bug and would like the attention of a family. Zoe likes to explore, so needs a home with a securely fenced yard. She would love daily walks where she can sniff around her neighborhood. Zoe has not lived with cats or other small animals.
Are you a walker, runner, hiker, camper? Zoe is the girl for you. With some basic training she will steal your heart.
If you are interested in Zoe or any of the other beautiful Mals seen here, please fill out the online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Polar Bear - who does not look or act anything like a polar bear - is a great dog. He is young but calm. Playful when invited to play but not boisterous. Tall and in great shape with a classic malamute coat and an almost-classic mal look - he is maybe a bit thinner than many but that just means he is more agile than most! He has not, however, challenged his foster moms 4 foot fence although he could certainly climb it. In his former home he lived loose, on a pretty busy road and did not run away, he stayed by home and pack. He will most likely be a great candidate for trails and snow play.
Bear has lived with several other dogs and with small children as well. His former owners say he is great with kids, good in the house and even good with cats. His owners had to move due to family obligations to a place where he would have had to have been chained and they felt he was way too good a dog to do that to.
But he is kinda sad now and has the most beautiful mournful howl. Hope his new family finds him soon! We will have better pictures soon; these were just his first night, poor baby.
Bear is being fostered in Cle Elum,WA.

Kaya is a soulful companion. He is a communicator, very attentive and emotionally intelligent. His owners have been working with him using Cesaer Millans training methods and he knows all the basics, sits before eating, waits for a signal before leaving the gate and walks on leash without dislocating your shoulder. He is housebroken. He is not a digger nor an escaper, and is quite happy to lay under the desk at your feet all day long. He enjoys being outside and going on walks, but he prefers to be inside. He is very attached to people and just wants to be near his pack. Kaya has a high prey drive towards cats, as does his sister Bebe.
Now for the bonus! A little about sister Bebe. She is a red and white Husky that weighs 43 lbs. She is excellent with all children and all other dogs of all sizes. She is trained to sit, lay down, stay and heel on leash. She is smart but can be distractable. She is a watch dog of sorts, even when dozing her ears do the radar sweep, listening for errant sounds. Bebe is a talker, very people oriented and loves attention all the time. She does well outside with Kaya and even though she is half his size she gives him plenty of static. She initiates most of their wrestling sessions and keeps him trim and on his toes. They just love each other. Like Kaya, Bebe is also not a digger or an escaper. She does have a habit of getting into cars, she loves to just climb into the back seat and sit there! Bebe has a high prey drive too, so no cats for this twosome.
So what do you think? Where else are you going to find a show stopping beautiful duo who are trained, good with kids, non diggers or escapers that already love and entertain each other? Hurry and get your application in so we can schedule your home visit and you can meet this dynamic duo!

The Salsa Puppies got their name when Mom's name turned out to be Mambo. Along with Mambo, they were part of the Colville Seizure as baby puppies. There are 3 boys and 1 girl. Salsa, Rhumbo and Tango are now boisterous little boys and Pepper is way more Tomboy than lady.
They are adorable, growing by leaps and bounds and ready for forever homes. While they are not AKC registered, the Salsa Puppies are the most malamute puppies, as a litter, that their foster mom has seen in a number of years, in malamute rescue. They are clearly all northern breed. Mom is a mal/sibe mix. Dad was clearly a sable malamute, and based on the puppies' appearances, it is very possible that Wookie, in fact, is Dad.
Tango is a pip; he is full of himself. Rhumba is the biggest but also the most easily scared. Salsa is the gentlest; he even enjoys being a lap puppy. And Pepper totally fits her name!
Are you ready to give your malamute puppy its first winter?

Jewel, also known as Woolie Julie, Her Royal Jewelness and Fluff n Stuff, is quite the relaxed lady. She loves going walking on the sidewalks of Seattle, and waits very patiently in line while her foster mom orders coffee. She has even been invited into some stores to shop as she seems to be admired by all for her beauty and gentleness. She does not pull on leash, but if you try to make her go somewhere shes notcomfortable with then she sure can put the brakes on! Jewel is housebroken, but likes to be let out every five to eight hours or so. A girl can not hold it forever you know! She is cat friendly with the cat in her foster home and seems to love all people. Because of her gorgeous long coat, Jewel will need daily brushing.
Are you a couch potato? Do you watch movie marathons, read a book all at once, or spend hours on the computer? Jewel is the dog for you! She will let you do all of those things. She will nap patiently and work on her daily goal of discovering new and adorable sleeping positions. When you call her for attention she tosses her head around. She is just so happy to hear someone say I Love YOU!
If you would like to meet this Fluffy girl, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

The Starlight Puppies are just six weeks old and will be ready to go to new homes at about Christmas time. Starlight the Mom is a mostly Malamute mix and Daddy is a mystery. Starlight came to us as a stray when the puppies were only a few days old. They have grown very fast and are just now in the fun puppy stage where the world is a big new place! We have three female and two male puppies. Two of the females and a male look more like their Malamute mom while the remaining male and female give us a clue about Daddy who may have been a Yellow Lab or Golden Retriever type dog. Here is a little bio on each of the pups:
Cassie - She has the softest white fur and her ears are just starting to perk up. Cassie, along with her nearly twin Kuma are the big explorers of the group. They are off checking out the edges of the yard looking at anything that moves or even looks like it might move. She has a great disposition and loves to climb in any available lap.
Kuma - He has got a beautiful gold puppy fur coat and lovely eyes. Just one of his ears is standing right now, the other stays flopped over which gives him a slightly puzzled look. He is the largest male puppy and tends to play a little harder than his smaller siblings but is a hysterical sight running at full puppy-speed across the yard.
MeiMei - She is the biggest female pup, is tan with a very dark streak down her back. She has a very sweet disposition and likes to give kisses to any human ears she can find. She is the most forward with people and the most interested in what is going on around her. She is also the talker of the group, always has something to say and is not shy about letting us know when she is feeling neglected.
Jax - Jax used to be the runt of the litter. He has got a reddish coat that seems to stick straight out from his little round self. We gave him a little extra food and he is not so tiny any more. Now that they are all eating solid foods, we have to watch him so he does not push the others out of the dishes. His nickname is Piglet. He is the most outgoing of the puppies, with a feisty attitude and personality to spare.
Kiki - She is the smallest and sweetest of the puppies. She has a silvery gray coat with a white blaze up her nose. She is not shy about asking to be picked up and when being held will snuggle right up into your neck and go to sleep. (Kiki already has an adoption pending)
PLEASE NOTE: We REQUIRE that these puppies be spayed or neutered as soon as they reach the appropriate age. To that end the adoption donation for the Starlight Puppies is 350 dollars, with 100 of that amount refunded to the adoptive family once proof of altering has been received from your vet.
If you are ready to give one of these little sweeties a new home, they are ready to come and help you unwrap gifts on Christmas!

Kai is a delightful dog, the type you cannot help but fall in love with. He has a smile that will warm your heart and a personality to go with it. He won't allow you not to love him, he is the most loving and cuddly boy you will ever meet. Kai loves kids and loves to be around humans. He wants his own family and wants to be an only dog. He is well trained and obeys very well. He is extremely smart and is a fast learner, he is just learning how to pull scooters and enjoys it very much.
Do you have some winter activities planned that Kai could enjoy with you and your family? Please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Touk, or Toowie as he is called in his foster home, is a great big handsome Mal. He came to rescue recently when his beloved owner suddenly passed away. Now his depression has lifted he loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home. He is very loving, listens pretty well, and is very gentle with the kids. He loves being brushed and petted, but watch out because he will lean in and knock you over with his size! Toowie will not be placed in a home with cats and would probably do better in a home with larger dogs as he likes to play hard.
If you would like to meet Touk or any of the other handsome Wamal dogs, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Touk is being cared for in Spokane, WA.
FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! Thankfully we were able to find Touk a foster home in his time of sadness and he did not have to be put in a commercial kennel to add to his stress. We do have Mals that are in desperate need of foster homes though, so if you have a kennel or fenced yard and are willing to foster please fill out a fosterhome application. Thank you!

MeiMei (May-May) is one of the Starlight Puppies. Her adoption fell through so she is looking for another home! MeiMei is a very sweet little girl with a laid back attitude and, as you can see from her pictures, a lot of growing to do if she is going to catch up with her ears! MeiMei will be a BIG girl if her ears and paws are any indication. She likes to play with her sister Kiki but will also sit and watch anything new for a few minutes before venturing over to investigate. When you pick her up she is all about snuggling in to give your chin and ears as many kisses as she can.
This little girl is already an active, busy, little puppy and is going to grow to be a large, active, energetic, and very furry dog. She is going to need lots of regular exercise so an active lifestyle and/or multiple walks per day are going to be necessary to keep both puppy and you happy. Requirements for her future home include a fully fenced yard with minimum 5-6 foot fencing, not an apartment or condo, no other female dogs and no small critters in the house.
If you are ready to give this little darling a new home in the New Year, she is ready to make the new year both fun and interesting!
MeiMei is being fostered with her sister in North Bend.
