Update: Large Marge has been adopted by her foster family, and is in Malamute bliss! Thank you so much to all of our wonderful volunteers, we could never do this without you!

Loki is a beautiful purebred German born Alaskan Malamute that is named after the Norse god of mischief. He has many, many wonderful qualities, but he is not going to be a candidate for a home with kids, other dogs, or cats. Loki will never be an off leash dog when out on walks or hikes and will need an experienced Mal owner to be the alpha.
That said, Loki loves all people and loves attention. He has that great Malamute talk, but rarely barks. He loves walks, hikes, camping and car rides. Loki loves to please and knows commands like sit, shake, wait, leave it, roll over, speak, shut the door, kiss, outside, park, on the nose (he will balance the food until told okay!) car ride, bike ride, walk, toy, bathroom, treat and high five! Loki loves to lie around like a cat. He loves to be inside with his people, and prefers to lie quietly at the foot of the bed at night. He also sleeps well in a tent when camping.
If you think Loki is the perfect boy for you, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Loki is being cared for in Seattle.

Meet Braveheart, Skyona, Buddy and Flower.

Update as of 02-03-2007 - The Foster home for Braveheart, Skyonna and Buddy is in an area that has been particularly hard hit with weather this winter and has periodically been without power and phone. The dogs are doing well, adjusting to having more attention, getting healthier and learning to interact with people again. Braveheart is still very attached to Skyonna, though it appears she may not be as attached to him. We think that Braveheart will need to be with another dog in his new home, but not necessarily Skyonna. She has turned out to be quite the curious and nosy girl, getting into everything. Buddy, who their foster mother now calls Boone, has grown quite attached to his foster mother after the loss of Flower and experiences a lot of separation anxiety when left alone. He will need to be in a home where there is either a dog companion or a person with him all the time. It also seems that Buddy/Boone is what we call a 'wooly' malamute, as if their normal coat isn't furry enough! It appears he may have been shaved at one time and the coat never grew back properly. Now, with better food and care, all the dog's coats are growing back in much better condition and his is showing signs of the longer wooly top coat.
If you would like to contribute to our efforts please visit our DONATE FOR THE GOLDENDALE DOGS fundraising page. Any amount, no matter how small will help! For offers of labor, materials or transport please email WAMAL and we will coordinate those separately.
The remaining 3 Goldendale dogs are all being lovingly fostered in Oregon.

Magic is the perfect dog if you are looking for a great, mellow older Mal. He gets along really well with most dogs, and is great with kids. He is unknown with cats. Magic does not challenge a 5 foot fence, and although he does not like to be kenneled, he seems to want to spend some time in his crate. Once Magic settles into his new home life he will return your human love ten fold! It is the small things that seem so big to an Mal like Magic.
Are you the perfect new home for Magic? Please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Magic is being cared for in Spokane, WA

Myrah is a stunning young malamute who is pretty sure the world is her oyster. She might just be right. She is an inside/outside girl, very used to living in a home. And she likes to be the canine queen of that home but she has played well in limited meetings with other dogs in the past. Still, we are thinking she will be a wonderful sole canine companion. Myrah epitomizes malamute behavior - powerful and active but loving and delighted to lounge around on the bed soliciting pets and belly rubs. She loves people and expects everyone to love her. And of course they do.
Myrah can leap tall buildings in a single bound. She will need secure containment but she is not focused on escaping unless she is after small feathered creatures. She has mastered some basic training, even including some hand signals, is pretty good with cats, exuberant meeting others, likes car rides, has gotten past basic puppy-chewing behavior and is crate trained. Because of her size, Myrah would probably best in a home without small children.
She is sweet, smart, ebullient, exuberant, gentle and SHE IS A LOVER. She is not a barker - does it only rarely. And does not talk much (yet?). Myrah is very focused on her human and will make her new person an incredible, classic malamute companion.
To meet Myrah or any of our other wonderful Malamutes, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Storm is a very handsome boy that is very friendly and loves attention. He needs a little TLC to get him looking his best, and could use some regular exercise and a good bath and brushing. He likes trotting along on walks, but gets winded easily as he is a bit out of shape. Storm likes to sing the blues and would love to be your best friend if you let him.
Storm is being fostered in Kennewick, WA

Big Bear has earned his name and is definitely for those of you who are looking for a very large companion! Bear is a 3 year old stunning boy who was surrendered because his owner died. He is extremely friendly, and loves people. Big Bear was an only dog so we are not sure yet how he interacts with other dogs or cats. He is in a foster home so we will know much more about him shortly.
If you would like to meet Big Bear or any of our other friendly Mals shown here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Big Bear is being fostered in Lakewood, WA

Kody family is moving and unable to take him with them. If you would like to meet this wonderful boy or any of the other beautiful Mals you see here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Keta is a beautiful big youngster with a lot of energy to burn. He is very puppy-like and extremely friendly. He is just a huge love bug! Keta is housebroken and is used to being left alone in the house for extended periods of time without any problems. He plays well with other dogs and has been raised with kids from the ages of 8-10 years old. Ketas former owners did not have cats, so he will need a slow and careful introduction. Keta is brand new to rescue so we will know more about his personality as soon as he is in his new foster home. If you would like to meet Keta or any one of our other gorgeous Mals, please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Keta is being cared for in the Seattle area.

Aspen is a gorgeous girl who loves to run. Her family has moved to a house without a fenced yard where she has to be tied out. They want to find her the life they feel she deserves. She is extremely active, full of energy, and she wants to be friends with every human she meets.
She is extremely smart and very sweet, loving and affectionate. Aspen is just full of happiness and life! She is house trained and knows her basic commands such as sit, lay down, off, and shake. She is used to spending her days outdoors and her nights in the house. Aspen is excellent with children, great with medium and large dogs, but not good with small dogs or cats.
If you think you may be Aspens new forever home, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Aspen is being cared for by her family in Edmonds, WA.

Tantris is house-trained and has been to puppy obedience classes. He sits, lies down, and minds his manners very well, but other things like Come and Drop it, tend to be the usual Malamute hit or miss. He understands No, but if he thinks he can get away with something, he will try. Tantris will need a securely fenced yard. He has gotten out due to doors being left open, and once he is out, he is gone. He does not do well with other male dogs, and he has not really had much contact with females. He would probably prefer to be an only dog.
If you would like to meet Tantris or any of our other beautiful Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Tantris is being cared for in Snohomish.

If you would like to meet this beautiful girl, or any of the other available Mals shown here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

She may enjoy being an only dog, or she may just be a little picky about her dog friends. She gets along well with the young child in her current home, but should always be supervised with young children because of her size. She has never lived with, and is unknown with cats. Niesha wants to find a forever home where she will be pampered. Are you her new family? If you would like to meet Niesha please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Chief is a big, goofy gentle boy and a big love. He enjoys his bones and treats, and loves his toys. He still needs work on a leash but is getting better during long walks with his foster mom. Being in a house is a new experience for Chief, and he is slowly getting used to the idea. Once inside he likes to snuggle and will lay next to you calmly. Chief is not a barker, but does not like to be left home alone. He will need a secure yard with a 6 foot fence.
If you would like to meet Chief or any one of our other amazing Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Tahoe is a real cutie! He is a very nice, happy, sociable boy. He loves to go for walks, and does not pull too terribly bad, but he does not seem to have much practice walking on a leash. Tahoe is on the small side if someone is looking for a Mal but would like one that is a little more compact.
If you would like to meet Tahoe or any of the other beautiful Mals seen here, please submit an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Tahoe is being cared for in Kent, WA.

Yukon is one very handsome boy. Known by his former owners as the Gentle Giant, he is big and beautiful and is just a goofy lovable guy. Yukon is very mellow and knows his place in the pack. He has great basic training, but could really use a brush up. Yukon would love to be with an active family during the day, then curl up by a quiet fireplace at night. Like all Malamutes, Yukon would love to wander if given the chance, so would do best with a securely fenced yard. Yukon has never lived with cats or small animals.
If you would like to learn more about Yukon and his great Malamute qualities, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Jingles is a beautiful, loving, trusting, playful pup about one year old. He loves to run along side a bike using a Springer. He has the desire to go, go, go....he would consider it his pleasure and a joy to pull anything including you on your cross country skies or sled. Jingles loves to play ball, loves to ride in the car and loves to go anywhere...hates to be left behind. He knows all of the basic commands like sit, stay and lay down.
Jingles is great with older kids as long they are old enough to tell him NO. At his young age he can get over-excited and jump up, so he is not a good candidate with young kids. Jingles is unknown with cats.
Jingles is housebroken but still needs supervision around your kitchen counter tops. Do not leave anything out that you do not want to disappear! He will sleep beside your bed but would happily join you in bed. A secure fenced back yard is a requirement for him because of his strong love of life and interest in everything around. He will roam if he can.
If you would like to meet Jingles please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

A note from Tank's foster mom. Tank is an awesome young puppy. He's a breeze to have as part of the family. He is crate trained, riding in a crate in the car and sleeping in one overnight. As he is so young, we are still in the process of solidifying house training, but he is doing excellent. I am taking him just about every where with me, so he will get used to many different situations. He is currently living with cats and two other dogs. He likes to try to chase the kitties, but they usually ignore him. It's more of a game, but he will need to be watched as he matures so it doesn't turn into something more dangerous. He is also around children of many different ages on a regular basis.
If Tank is stealing your heart then you need to be ready for a Mal puppy! If you would like to meet Tank or any one of our already trained Mals, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Have you noticed how many of Ember's pictures are blurry? This is because the boy is never still when he is in the yard, until he wears his little wiggle-worm self out.
Ember is a delight. A youngster with a sunny, sparkly disposition, beautiful coat and head, extra long legs and a big smile almost all of the time. He gets along well with the males and females - although he really wants to be left alone when he is eating. And no wonder - this boy needs to add at least 20 pounds.
He doesn't know a thing. He has no manners. But he has a soft, loving way about him and will love to learn. And if you already have one, or even two dogs and are thinking about a youngster to rev them up, Ember is your boy!

Here are truly awful pictures of a real sweetheart of a dog, Lovey-Dovey. Honest to goodness, that is the name she came with. And the dog matches the name.
LD is less than a year old. We think she is 80 percent malamute. There are only a couple of subtle things that are not malamute about her.
Personality? She really does match her name. She has been in a country rescue for 2 months and gets along with everyone. She was hit by a car and scraped up - no other injuries or broken bones or anything like that. Just her face scraped up so she played with a big pack while her face healed. She is all healed and ready for a home.
She is SUCH a puppy. You know, the flop on the back, petme-loveme type. She is an excitable little wriggly girl. And so smart! LoveyDovey will love learning whatever you want to teach her! She came from a family situation so we would feel quite comfortable placing her in a family situation. She is also not an escapeartist and that small percentage of non-malamute that is most likely there seems to make her more of the type of dogs that sticks to your side like glue. Still, a fence will be required - we want no more accidents for this adorable puppy.
Lovey-Dovey is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA

What a sweet girl! Annabelle is very calm and loving. She loves treats, dog bones and stuffed toys. She will roll over for you so you can give her tummy rubs, and just wants lots of love. Annabelle enjoys going for walks and walks well on leash. She was rescued from a shelter so we have no information on how she gets along with kids or cats yet. She seems a little timid around barking dogs, but she's still just a pup so she may just be intimidated a bit right now.
If you are looking for a young, healthy, beautiful girl like Annabelle, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Aspen is a handsome, affectionate and mellow boy who loves to be petted. He enjoys going on walks, and walks well on leash. He seems to enjoy himself and ignore other dogs. Aspen has been kept on a chain in the past, and would now love to have his own fenced yard to play in. He may also like a playmate his own size to keep him happy. Aspen came from a shelter so we do not have any background on how he is with children or cats. Aspen is looking for a loving family that would give him all of the attention and daily walks he deserves.
If you think Aspen sounds like a great fit for your family please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Kaya is a sweet baby girl.
Like all malamute puppies, she will become a big, boisterous loving but exuberant young malamute before you can shake a stick. Kaya still has the unique puppy smell. Malamute puppies are a challenge and a joy She was well cared for and loved in her original home, lived with a brother puppy and was trained by her owners. She is also well cared for, loved and in puppy training in her foster home. She may already be housetrained and we are checking on that. She is well socialized people and other dogs.
She is bewildered by all of these changes but loves to play and bounce back beautifully. She already has a sweet, sad howl when she is frightened. Kaya has never been alone so she needs to be part of a family.
Kaya is being cared for in Yakima, WA

Cooper, a huge boy, is better known as Gigantor in his foster home! He is a great dog with a great disposition. He does well with kids and seems to be getting along fine with the other dogs and a very stealthy cat at his current home. Cooper loves his food! Meal time is a favorite time of the day, but he manages to maintain control and is very polite while his foster dad BBQ's chicken for the family. Cooper is happy to go on his walks, and walks well on leash, especially considering his size. He also likes being brushed and playing tug of war.
If you can handle a big dog like Cooper please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Cooper is being cared for in Spokane, WA.

Up until now Nanook has been living by his own set of rules. He needs an experienced Malamute household who will teach him what NO means. He has played with kids in his former household, but will need to be closely supervised at all times. He is unknown with cats. Nanook is waiting for just the right home to help him learn human rules.
If you would like to meet Nanook or any of our other beautiful Mals seen here, please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Skeeter-Bug update:
This youngster is a barrel of fun. She is a tomboy, She LOVES to fetch, she LOVES to run around, she LOVES playmates, playmates, she is interested in everything. Until she gets a bone - then she runs into her house and peers out as if to see who is coming to steal it! Skeeter/Skadi is boisterous, wanting to play much more than to be petted. She can hardly contain herself. But in sunny afternoons, she can laze around like an old hound. Her foster mom believes she is very bright - she wants to know what is going on around her and wants to be near the action. Once we had a hotwire class here, the 4' chain link fence has contained her (although like all fosters here, she is kenneled nights and whenever foster mom is away. She considers her kennel to be home so that is not so bad.) Foster mom has never had a dog to play fetch with. Skeeter loves it. She is a hoot.
If you would like a high energy girl to join you in running, hiking, biking and playing in the mountains, Skadi may just be the girl for you. If you are interested in meeting her please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
Skadi is being cared for in Cle Elum, WA.

Spirits Red Rose is in a bit of a daze. She wants to do whatever she is supposed to but is not quite sure what that is. She is bewildered by all of the changes in her life. But she does like having these yards and her own blanket. She looks around as if to say - What is this? What is that? oh, I like this grass, And this cool concrete. And this soft blanket.
It is hard to understand how a sweet senior like this can be found as a stray. Her teeth looked awful but they cleaned up beautifully. Her eye looked awful but it turned out to be an old injury. She had a tumor but it was only a fatty tumor. She is actually in pretty darn good shape and has a thick plush coat that will be stunning as soon as she is well enough for some grooming.
And what a happy, easy, easy undemanding girl she is. Stays in the 3-foot fenced front yard, Old Folks Home. No trouble at all with the malamute pack here, and no sound out of her - none - yet. Of course, once she figures out just how much she can get away with, that may change. There are glimpses of mischief and stubbornness - thank goodness - but that basic sweetness and gratefulness seem to be built into this lovely dog.
Spirit Rose is currently being fostered in Cle Elum, WA.

This young girl is adorable. She will run right up to you at full speed and flop over on her back all in one motion just to get a belly rub.
Not the largest of Malamutes but still fairly tall. She weighs in at about 80 pounds and likely will add a few more over the next several months. She is short some hair due to a recent pregnancy and improper diet but her coat is starting to come back in and she will look outstanding when it does.
She is very good with food showing no protection issues and takes treats gently even from my 5 year old son.
She understands sit, down and no sometimes but only uses her understanding when it suits her. She does well in the kennel when she has to be kenneled however she generally has the run of the yard and has been good when left out all day. Sapling trees should be wary of her though.
This loving girl is house trained and routinely stays in for 8 to 9 hours at a time and has over more than a month never had an accident inside the house. She gets along great with kids but can be a bit pushy for attention so little kids will need supervision around her.
She walks well on a leash with an adult and my 10 year old daughter. She generally ignores other dogs she meets while on a walk. She also does a good job of ignoring the neighbors dogs. She is generally very quite, seldom talks and almost never barks.
She gets along well with male dogs that are her size. For over a week she was housed with/around a 12 year old Siberian male who was comparable to her height although a little lighter and she was quite respectful of the old guy. One note to this is that this was about the only time that she barked or talked excessively and it was always during feeding time and they were always fed separately.
She has never really challenged the fence here although with enough motivation she might, she is interested in squirrels and cats and has managed to tree several squirrels but as of now has not quite been fast enough to catch one.
She would really like an active home with kids.
Miyah is being cared for in Richland, WA

Kihei can be reserved and shy when you first meet him but once he determines he is saif, he is a complete love - the Flop-on-the-back-for-Belly-rubs type of dog.
He is a gorgeous young dog who needs to fill out some. Tall and lanky but with big snowshoe feet and and active and curious nature. He loves to play, like most of our youngsters, and is good with dogs of both sexes. One of his photo album pictures shows him with his foster mom and playmate.
Kihei has a great coat for snow and will be a wonderful companion for outdoor activites - truly wonderful. And he has this one magical thing - he does not walk or trot. He floats.
Kihei is currently being fostered in the Bellingham, WA.

Meet Conrad, the active, playful eager youngster. Conrad has to find a new home because his owner has joined the Army and will be going to boot camp. He has been in his current home since 8 weeks of age. Conrad loves to be where the people are and the action is. He loves to play keep-away soccer, go on rides in the car, go to the lake and run along side you when you go biking. He is just a go, go, go dog who would love camping, hiking and snow activities.
Conrad is housebroken and loves his cat sister. He gets along with other dogs, and would need to be supervised around children as all mals should, because of his high energy level. He is looking for a home where the Alaskan Malamute is loved and understood.
If you think you have the high energy lifestyle that Conrad needs, or if you would like to meet any of the other dogs shown here, please fill out an application and we will contact you as soon as possible for your home visit.

Dakota is a very, very sweet boy that is full of energy and get up and go! He knows all the basics such as sit, shake, lay down, take nice, he takes treats very gently, and the Malamute stay...when he feels like it. He loves his ears and tummy scratched and will fetch a ball if not distracted. He rides very well in the car and sometimes leans around and gives you a kiss. Dakota is new and just out of the shelter so we don't know how he is with kids or cats yet. Until we find a foster home for him he is kenneled next to Annabelle, a female Mal, and they seem to get along just fine.
If you would like to meet Dakota or any of our other beautiful Mals here, please fill out an application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Nana is a strikingly beautiful new youngster that is looking for a loving family to call her own. She has lost her home due to her elderly owner no longer being able to care for her. Nana is AKC registered, and about as sweet and friendly a Mal as you will ever meet. She loves kids, loves walks and has a beautiful howl. Nana has lived with cats, but will need a careful introduction as she has shown interest in the cats at her foster home. She is also slowly meeting the dogs in her new surroundings and seems to be doing fine with them, even wanting to play a little. Nana needs some work on leash as she is extremely strong and likes to pull. She knows basic commands, is housebroken, and has always been a house dog.
Is Nana your new forever friend? If you would like to meet Nana please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.

Sydney is a sweetheart, her nickname around her foster home is Princess. She is very talkative, and loves people unconditionally. She likes to go for walks, car-rides, play fetch, give hugs and dance. Thats right, dance! She especially loves children, and if she encounters a group of them she will sit in the middle of the group and soak up all the love and pets she can get.
As for other animals, she is very alpha, and has a very strong prey drive. She will need a home with no cats and no smaller dogs. In fact Sydney would like to be an only dog. She prefers to be outdoors, with an occasional short visit into the house. Her health is very good, especially considering her age. Her hips give her a little trouble, so no stairs for her.
She can be very stubborn and demanding, especially around dinner time, hence the nickname princess. She does not dig, except to make her den, nor does she challenge fences. She will take advantage of any open gates though, and go walk-about.
Sydney is being cared for in Seattle, WA. If you are interested in meeting Sydney, please submit an application and we will get your homevisit scheduled ASAP!

Update: Shebas foster mom wants everyone to know that this young lady is IN LOVE with Children!! She absolute came alive when she encountered a group of three children, the youngest aged 3. She wagged her tail uproariously, talked continuously, licked hands and was most age-appropriate even with the 3 year old. She was so subdued after they left, that her foster mom thinks she might be MOST happy with children in her life. As with all dogs, she should never be left alone with the little ones, but Oh!, what
