Just look at that handsome face, the youthful stance, and frankly, hes rather a stud even though hes been fixed. Romeo is an energetic young boy that will need some parental guidance, but not of the Montague or Capulet type. A training class would help tame his adolescent behaviors and he should be easily trainable as he seems to do anything for treats. Right now he is learning to shake paws but hasnt yet accomplished a renaissance gentlemans manner. Romeo is also a lover boy. He is very good with people and craves attention like petting and belly rubs. He needs an active home to help release his high levels of energy. Yep, hes a canine Romeo who would love to be vanished to a forever home never to return to Verona or life on the streets.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Young Lady Dallas is a small Mostly Mal pup, but dont let her diminutive size fool you. After playing with one of our volunteers his comment was that she may be small, but she is a stick of dynamite! She is a strong girl with a strong prey drive for anything on the wing or on little feet like birds and squirrels, and caution should be taken around other small creatures. Her energy will need to be managed by someone who can control serious pulling. She is a good walker though and listens to commands well so is very easily trainable. Her ideal forever home would be an active household that would take her to do sports activities like skijoring and hiking, then bring her home to love her inside the house afterward. Dallas relishes loving, belly rubs and nibbling at forearms. She sits and takes treats very gently. Dallas is friendly with people and appears to be good with other dogs, she loves to play! Dallas is a happy, tail wagging girl that would cherish a good home with a great forever family. Dallas recently had a litter of pups and her short coat shows that right now. Its growing back fast though, and she will be even more beautiful soon.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Coming up with a name for this pup was pretty easy. Although Squishy Face was the first thing that came to mind, the two youngsters in his foster home immediately had a better idea. One called him Teddy and one called him Bear. And since he looks just like a stuffed Teddy Bear, they both seemed to fit! This boy is cute as a button, has a gorgeous smile and is SWEET. He loves people, loves kids and loves other dogs. Teddy Bear wants to be part of the pack and doesnt like to be left out of any fun or loving going on. He is a huge cuddler and comes running for hugs and pats. He also has a beautiful soft coat with gorgeous highlights. PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Just look at this face! Sweet Sascha is perfect for a less active family who wants a beautiful, mellow Malamute with the size of a Siberian. She does not need a large house or yard, she just needs love, love, love. And she will give it back to you in spades! Here is what Sascha told us would be her idea of a perfect day. 1. Get up around 10-ish and saunter into the kitchen to check on breakfast. 2. Eat breakfast 3. Take her pack leader for a short walk and smell the flowers. 4. Nap 5. Wake up, slow stretch, belly rub, say Hi to the family, bum a cookie or two, a few laps around the yard. 6. Nap 7. Up in time to check out the kitchen again, When is dinner? 8. Short walk after dinner then an evening of TV watching and muzzle scratches.
Sascha was on the thin side when she came to us, but thanks to her loving foster home she is a normal weight now. Her vet says her heart sounds great and she is in good health. Her foster mom reports she has a great bladder and can hold it for 8 hours. She also walks well on the leash and has great house manners. Sascha would prefer a home with older children who will love on her without wanting to crawl all over her.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Matt Dillon got his name because Miss Kitty (aka Nikita) took one look at him and fell madly in love! You should see them play - it is incredible. They are new friends and of course are NOT a bonded pair but they sure are a hoot to watch. Will try to get a video soon.
Matt is a very young, graceful and beautiful boy who was quite shy at first. Miss Kitty (who adores all people but not so many dogs) has helped him get past his initial fears. He now bounds up and has learned that being petted feels pretty darned good. Not quite as much fun as playing with another dog of course but humans are ok in second place.
Matt Dillon has a beautiful woowoo and isnt crazy about being kenneled but has also learned that it is just temporary - every day is playday so kennels are not so bad since they do not last forever. He is surprisingly good in the house for a puppy also. Matt can climb a 4 foot fence but has learned not to. When he did, he trotted right back to foster mom for hotdogs. He is underweight and will probably end up between 80 and 90 lbs. It is possible that he still has some growing to do. Beautiful coat, beautiful dog and still very much a puppy.

Bolt is an absolutely gorgeous, stunning dog who came to us in less than ideal condition. But today he is MUCH improved. Love and a round of steroids can do wonders! Bolt still drags one paw, which may be the result of a tangle with a car, but he is now able to go for short daily walks and no longer displays rear end failure, the kind where the back end has no get up and go. X-rays show nothing wrong, his bones show no arthritis or damage at all. Its just taking a little time for this fellow to heal some. he will probably never be as rambunctious as many mals, so if you are looking for a mellower snow dog that doesnt need to go to a mountain pass every other day to be happy, this boy may be the one for you! In fact Couch Potato may be his calling. Bolt loves to lay and watch TV with his foster care human brother who is 12 people years old. And besides his humans he gets along well with other dogs, even small ones, AND cats!
Bolt is a great house dog, so quiet you will have to remember to take him out, which you DO need to do. And he will love you for feeding him oranges, yes oranges! Okay, most other food as well.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Sweet, sweet Callah, with her cute floppy ears and soft coat, is about as close as they come to a perfect Malamute. She is a little on the small side and has an absolutely great personality as well as perfect doggie manners. She is so full of love and smiles that you cant help but be happy around her. She plays fetch and loves to bring the ball back to you, stopping just long enough to give you a huge sloppy kiss. She is great on leash and comes when you call her. She loves her hugs and all the love you can give her, she just soaks it all up. She has the perfect amount of energy and a great temperament, not too hyper and not too laid back. From what we can tell so far Callah seems to like other dogs, and we will be testing her for her reaction to cats in the next week or so. She is great on leash and loves car rides too. PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Oh Grandma, what big ears you have! Young Glaciers mom was a Malamute and dad was a German Shepherd but he looks mostly Mal to us. This very shy boy does not want to be left alone outside and does really well with other dogs of all ages and sexes. He has also lived with kids and cats. We have pulled him from the shelter where he was very scared, but in the same kennel as five other dogs. When we visited him there he was nervous, but did come over for some petting and scratching from our volunteer. We are hoping that he will come around fairly quickly in his new foster home through interaction with other dogs and cats as well as some intense snowshoeing activity and plenty of loving. We will update his bio once we know more about any training he might have and if he is housebroken. He would most likely do best in a quiet but fairly active home where he is allowed to get used to his new family slowly.

Athenas former owner describes her as gentle, loving, loyal, sweet and a very free spirit. She is housebroken and spends time inside as well as outside, but loves to sleep indoors at night. She loves going for walks or runs and we are working on her leash manners now. Athena knows all her basic commands such as sit, lay down and shake as well as the Malamute come where she runs up to you, teases you, then runs off again. Ariel is feeling very sad right now as she has spent several weeks in a shelter waiting to be adopted. She is ready to be moved now and find a loving family that will teach her that humans can be kind. Ariel is said to be very sweet and somewhat shy. She does not care for other female dogs, but we are as yet unsure how she is with males, kids or cats. Timi is a little people shy, but is in a foster home where he has been interacting with strangers on hikes on a regular basis and seems to be coming around quickly. He is being introduced to new dogs, new people and new situations. Once scared of men, he is now accepting pats from men. He is getting along great with the two other Mals in his foster home, and is learning basic Mal manners as well. Timi loves car rides and ice cream cones too! He is becoming a self-assured little pup with a great personality shining through. Timi will need a securely fenced yard as he is young and very active.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Cool Hand Luke made two things crystal clear right away. He loves people and he hates being alone in the kennel. Sooo, then we learned that he can get along with other dogs, because he opened that pesky kennel so he could play with the 2 malamutes in the Big Yard. No fights, just happy campers. Luke would do best with a playmate his own size.
Open a car door and he heads right for it - people is where it is at for Cool Hand Luke. When Luke went down to the vets office for his little procedure he easily put his front paws on the chest high counter in order to greet all the wonderful people on the other side. After that he showed his manners by stepping nicely onto the scales and sitting!
For such a young dog, he is remarkably laid back. He walks very well on leash, mostly leaving some slack. But the scent or sight of wildlife can really get him excited. He will not be a candidate for a home with cats. He sits, he comes, and picked up lie down after a couple of tries, he is so very smart and willing. Luke is bullet proof house trained and knows how to use a doggy door.
Luke loves riding in a car and quietly takes his place behind the front seats. He recently went to a meeting and after greeting a couple of people gently he just lay down and relaxed for the following two hours. He is totally as delightful as his pictures.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Kenya came into rescue as a stray from a shelter after being picked up by animal control. Although he finds the soft pads in the walk in dog house to be irresistible, Kenya also loves to play with humans and enjoys other dogs as well. And this big boy is a dream to walk. He enjoys walking, trots along and is very easy to manage.
Kenya is a big boy, sturdy and very tall, but does not throw his weight around. Clearly not a young dog, he seems far younger than the original shelter estimate. He loves being petted, does the malamute lean, and will bounce around the yard in play any time you invite him to do so. He is not pushy, Kenya is very polite, but he is always ready for play. And just loves being gently teased and teasing in return. Kenya has a terrific coat for winter activity and big snowshoe feet.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Max is doing well in his new foster home, he has made friends with foster brother Scooby and all the kids. He has excellent house manners! Stays off furniture, doesnt beg, asks to go out, no pacing or worrying. He will cruise the counters though, but no more than any dog will. He also has an beautiful quiet inside woo, and is learning to ride in the car quickly (he has discovered his foster parents and foster brother Scoobys morning visits to the mocha stand where they give out cookies and ear scratches). He now jumps into the truck to go for a ride. He has some fear of adults, but there has already been an improvement. Oddly enough, he is not afraid of teens and 20ish folks, only older people. Max is getting used to leashes, and once on leash walks really well for a young exhuberent boy. He has become the jogging partner for the 16 year old in his foster family. He is a really great dog, and a great family dog. He will do better in a smaller family that is willing to work with him and give him the love, attention and exercise he needs. It will only be a matter of time and positive experiences for him to be great. Max is definately interested in cats, so definately no cats for him, but he would most likely like a fur brother to play with.

Si has been diagnosed with and immune mediated disorder which causes him to have severe eye issues, such as swelling, inflammation and discomfort. He has responded well to medications and returns to normal. What cause these flair ups is truly not know but is likely linked to vaccinations so it has been recommended that future vaccinations be avoided. Instead of vaccinations your veterinarian can have titers (a blood test) to check his level of protection. Si also has trouble swallowing some types of food and is currently being fed a home cooked diet.

So we know hes good with kids and most likely housebroken. He keeps escaping when the kids open the door though, probably due to boredom and the need for exercise. He will need a securely fenced yard and may love a dog buddy to horse around with during the day. He rides well in the car and is ready to learn some basic manners at your local obedience class. She has been calm in her new foster home and is interested in the other dogs, but hasnt had a chance to play with them yet. She has also been challenged by the cat and she backed off. Sasha was dropped off at the shelter after getting in a dog fight and sustaining some injuries. She is healing quickly though, and will be ready for her new forever home in no time. She loves laying by your feet while watching TV after a nice long walk.

Full of energy and in the prime of his life Tarzan would just as soon play with you as go on hikes through the forest, pull your sled through the snow, or participate in the numerous other winter activities Washington has to offer. Tarzan is one dog who has never met a stranger and will most likely give you a big kiss the first time he sees you. With his unique markings and beautiful eyes, Tarzan is one striking young malamute that you shouldnt pass up. Due to his size and energy Tarzan might do best in a more active home with lots of room to play. That said, he does not challenge the 6 ft fence at his foster home and does settle rather quickly, knowing when playtime is over that it is time to settle down. He loves to rest his head on your lap and have his ears scratched, or long strokes down his back. He loves loving! Tarzan is a big eater and gets very excited at meal times. He thinks cats are part of his eating plan, so no cats for Tarzan please.

Ruger is one great looking dog that has that serious male Mal look and feel about him! Ruger is buff and manly and reminds us a little of a rugby player, enjoying rutting up huge chunks of sod on his walks. He comes across as stoic and full of himself, but he is actually very people friendly and takes treats very gently from you. He also loves petting, scratching and loving. He ignored the cats and small dogs at the vet, and came into the shelter with Kira, so most likely would enjoy a playmate in his new forever home. Ruger loves car rides where he can hang his head out the window and attract waves and honks from other cars along the way. Once at his destination he walks very nicely on leash and waits patiently for you to get going. Ruger has a small cataract on his left eye that doesnt seem to bother him at all. Our resident health expert will be able to give you more information on if this will affect him in the future, but it doesnt slow him down now, that is for sure!

He is just a stunner. Salem came to a shelter as a stray so we are still learning more about him. Right now he is a bit anxious and confused, but we have pulled him from the shelter and hope to get him into a new foster or forever home asap. We will have volunteers working with him asap to find out more on his personality. So far we know that he seems to get along with dogs his size, is a little restless riding in a truck, and could use some training on a leash. As much as his family loves Sky, he now has to find a new home out of their area in order to keep the peace. Sky is very smart, a fast learner and once bonded with his humans he tries very hard to please. Kehei is a VERY loving boy who enjoys belly rubs and walks and who likes being petted more than anything else in the world. More than food, more than treats, even more than play. He is a people pleaser and will work hard to be what you want, so that you will feel free to love him - and love on him.
But the boy is playful, too! He and his canine buds can amuse themselves all day, race around, play tug of war and then play Dead Dog Rug in the afternoon sun. The vet says he should have a pretty normal life if common sense is used when it comes to his activity level. But the good news is that Clyde seems to know this and he is just one mellow boy! We managed to get him out of the shelter and into a great foster home where he is getting some much needed TLC. He has been to the Vet and we are in the process of determining what is going on with him physically and how to proceed with his care.
Max is a beautiful, charming older dog who is faithful and very loving. He has been through a lot but is regaining some strength and weight. He is a very mellow guy who looks to please. He needs some tender, gentle loving care. No long walks needed, just lots of affection and lots of food. Max is definitely Malamute - he has that air of royalty and independence about him. He has gotten along fine with a female dog at his foster home. His foster mom reports that he has become her shadow following her everywhere! PLEASE SPONSOR ME!The first thing I thought of when I saw Mosie and her beautiful bright blue eyes and smile was the Guns and Roses song Sweet Child of Mine. Shes got eyes of the bluest skies as if they thought of rain. I hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce on pain. Shes got a smile that it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories.
Mosie is a happy, friendly girl who is the size of a Malamute with the striking blue eyes of a Siberian Husky. She loves lots of petting when she is inside, and loves to follow her nose when she is outside. Mosie has a mammary gland tumor that will be removed and biopsied when she is spayed next week. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the tumor is benign and that Mosie will go on to live a very normal and very happy life as soon as her surgery is complete. Mosie has yet to be evaluated with other dogs, cats and kids, so we will post that information here as soon as we know more.

She is also on a non-grain diet due to food allergies, so will need to continue with that in her forever home.

He has not been cat tested yet, but we will post an update once we know more. Right now Nanuq is in desperate need of a good grooming to get the foxtails out of his long beautiful coat, but he will be a stunning looking boy one we get that done. She is estimated to be between one and two years old so is still very much a puppy at heart. She knows both sit and lie down and seems very willing to do them on the second command, especially if hot dogs are involved. She loves people, and is very comfortable and relaxed riding in a car. As you can see in her photos, Nova has a wound on her muzzle that has recently been cleaned and she is on medication to help her heal. She will be back to her fun loving, happy and gorgeous self in no time though, so dont wait too long on meeting her. She does pretty well with the resident canine in her current place, and although she does show too much interest in the cats there, they are working with her on ignoring them. But you will need to have more than a Whoa Pony! to control this boy. Max is a classic malamute in every sense; smart and athletic, strong both physically and mentally, curious and mischievous, and very sensitive to pack order.
In Maxs previous life he was used as a breeding male in a puppy mill type of a situation. His torn and tattered ears show the battles he has endured. He can be intolerant of other males, and like most Mals cannot be with small dogs. His prey drive rules out kitties and any other small critters as well. His previous life did not include much pampering or inside privileges so house etiquette 101 will be a must for this quick learner.
Max needs consistency, exercise, mental stimulation and a strong pack leader to help him reach his full potential. He could be good with older children, and possibly a female dog of similar size to himself. Whomever adopts him will greatly rewarded by his goofy sense of humor and his big wet kisses.

Indy is still filled with puppy energy and mischief and would benefit from an obedience clase, but he is a very willing learner who wants to please and will do well training with positive reinforcement combined with plenty of treats. Like most Mals, Indy can be picky about his doggy friends but is spends some time playing with Manitok when he gets the chance.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!YEP, you are reading it right, Saber weighs 186 lbs! He was dropped off at a shelter by his owners for being too big. We do have some information on his previous life that was provided to the shelter and here is what it says. Saber has been an outside only dog up to this point. He went jogging six times a week and to the dog park once a week. He comes when called if off leash and knows sit and shake. He loves to chase cars, cats, bikes and anything else he can, so on leash walks are a must for him, although it does say he has never caught any of the above lol! He has never been around kids, but gets along well with other dogs. He is afraid of loud noises including fireworks and vacuum cleaners and does not like water. He loves to raid garbage cans and chew up toys and tennis balls when given the opportunity. Saber plays really well and gently with all people and multiple dogs, and is quickly becoming a volunteer favorite since coming into rescue.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Kodi thinks he is going to grow up to be like the big boy Malamutes he is hanging out with. Shhhhh.... do not tell him, but he is really a seven month old Siberian Husky that snuck his way into Malamute rescue due to a volunteer with an inability to say we couldnt take him.
Kodis owner passed away recently and then he spent a week at the local shelter waiting to see if a relative was going to come claim him. While he was there he got in a small tussle with a kennel mate but since we have had him we have seen no signs of dog aggression at all, so we are guessing that was just too much stress for such a young pup locked in a kennel with a dog he didnt know.
Kodi is very well socialized, loves people, treats and snuggling and this young boy has energy to burn! If you love the northern breed traits but are not interested in being drug around the neighborhood by a full sized Mal this may be the boy for you. He is athletic, appears to have basic puppy manners and training and is ready for adventures with a new family. He has not been tested with cats.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Neglected, abused, ignored and left outside to rot. This is Rocky, and that has been life as he has known it for the last several years. We were contacted by an animal welfare organization this week asking if we could help. Originally scheduled to be euthanized, Rocky, as many abused dogs will, showed the shelter staff that he not only deserved to live, but that he wants to live. He is being treated for massive skin infections and his nails were so long they had grown into his feet. His face says Im Done, but his heart says Give me another chance. We have a very temporary foster home set up for Rocky, but NEED to find a more permanent one asap or of course a forever home would be even better. Dogs like Rocky often turn out to be the worlds greatest friends, walking partners and wet kissers. His fur will grow back, his feet will heal, but he needs to have his heart filled with love and family.

Denali has a very expressive face which is only accentuated with his floppy ears. He walks well on lead for a young Mal and loves to lean in for some welcomed human affection.
Denali arrived in the shelter as a stray so a secure fence is a must for this boy. He has high prey drive, so he is not recommended for a household with kitties. Other than that his requirements are pretty easy. Denali is looking for a new forever family that will include him the family dynamics and make him an active member of the pack. He justs wants to be included and loved.

Brando is a big loving energetic character who will come right up to you and lean in for a big body hug. He loves going for easy walks and sleeping on the sunny porch. Most of all he loves affection and attention from people. He is easy-going, cooperative, great on the leash and good in the car. Brando is not interested in escaping and comes when called. He loves all people (unknown with children) and is mostly indifferent to other dogs, although he can be growly with other males. He would most likely prefer to be an only dog, but may do okay with a friendly female dog close to his size.

PLEASE SPONSOR ME!Brumal came to us in very sad shape. He was found as a stray and taken in by a good Samaritan who cared for him while she searched and searched for his owners. But no one was looking. Brumal appears to be a case of severe neglect, he had to be shaved to get cockroaches out of his fur. He also had eye infections and a urinary tract infection which are now being treated. He has large paws, is underweight and will have a beautiful coat once it grows back. Brumal is an incredible gentle and sweet boy with a face that says he still trusts humans. Right now he is being treated for arthritis and has some trouble walking. He is also incontinent and is using a belly band so he is able to stay inside on his warm comfy bed at his new foster home. Hopefully once his bladder infection is cured, he will be able to get rid of the belly band and go for normal easy walks around the block with his new family.
