Thank you for your interest in WAMAL and in adopting an Alaskan Malamute.

Our adoption donation is $300 and includes spay/neuter, current immunizations and in some cases a microchip. As $300 rarely covers the money spent for rescue for each Malamute, people are encouraged to donate more if they can. Every nickle donated allows us to save that many more Malamutes in need. It is only through donations that we can manage to fund our rescue work and without these donations we would not be able to save the Washington State Malamutes in need, like the very Malamute(s) you are hoping to adopt from us now by filling out this application!

One of our volunteers will be in touch with you soon regarding your application. Please be patient, we are an all volunteer organization and schedules are sometimes hard to arrange. Once your application has been reviewed we may contact you regarding arrangement of a home visit. In a home visit one of our volunteers comes to your home to discuss your application and how a Malamute would fit into your home and life style. All this takes time to arrange, since both dogs and volunteers are spread out across the state so we ask that you be patient while we work with you through our process.

Only after the home visit is completed do we discuss specific dogs or arrange for you to meet the dogs that are currently available for adoption. Please keep in mind that we do not hold dogs for applicants while they go through the adoption process. We urge you no t to set your sights on just one dog, because there may be someone further along in the process interested in that same dog. If that home is determined to be a good match, the dog will be adopted out.

If you are not from WA State, please get in touch with your local rescue representative. WAMAL sometimes assists with adoptions in surrounding states, such as Idaho and Oregon, but much farther than that presents far too many difficulties -- all of which would need to be coordinated by the local rescue representative anyway.

For applicants in Canada, please understand that it is very difficult for us to adopt to you and thus will most likely have to refer you directly to Canadian rescues. There are several reasons for this:
- Our inability to retrieve the dog should the adoption not work out
- The unfairness of depriving a dog in Canada of a loving home because we have sent a Wamal dog to his/her potential adopter
- The additional burden that cross border adoptions place on already overworked and overwhelmed rescue volunteers.
