A GOOD PLACE TO BE

I was bought as a pup, taken to my new home
Where they gave me a name, toys, balls and bones
For five years I was cared for, I had no complaints
But suddenly one day my whole life was changed
I found myself out running the street
Wearing only a choke chain and dragging my leash
I searched for my home without any luck,
'My family MUST miss me!' and then came the truck-
A strange man in uniform took me away
To a cage where I waited day after day
I knew for a fact my family would come
And take me back home where I surely belonged
But they never came, how could they not care
About all of that time together we shared?
In the shelter I failed my temperament test
By being 'overly cautious', backing away from their reach
Their decision was made, I was not one they'd keep
Their simple solution was to put me to sleep
But some lady from Rescue showed up with cheese
She took me outside where I obeyed with ease
I 'heeled' and I 'downed' and I 'sat' on command
I was ready to please with only the wave of her hand
She could tell I was good, true to my breed
Smart, funny, obedient-what more do they need?
She took many months to find my new home
A place I'd be happy and kept safe from harm
My new family loves me, that's easy to see
I'm the King in my castle-it's a good place to be
