Chinook is a tall, dark and handsome boy with a mask that rivals Zorros! He is looking for that special home with lots of opportunity for action. He knows his basic commands and walks beautifully on leash, but would benefit from a firm and consistent leader that will help him become that perfect canine citizen. He travels beautifully in the car, although he is convinced he should always ride shotgun, and gets along famously with other large dogs, both male and female. He has even spent several days a week at a doggy daycare ranch. Sorry, no cats or kids for this big boy as he tends to be too mouthy (to say nothing of that pesky malamute prey drive). But he longs for a doggy brother or sister with whom he could wrestle the hours away. This boy loves to hang with his peeps and will keep a close watch on you from morning until night. Previously confined by city life, Chinook dreams of wide open spaces - well, not too wide - where he will prove a loyal and loving companion for many years to come.
If you are a strong pack leader with previous Malamute experience Chinook may just be your next best friend. Please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit asap.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines. Chinook is being cared for in Kent, WA.

Miss Juno, the drop dead gorgeous 5 year old that acts like a 2 year old. Juno is full of energy and enthusiasm for life after spending a good deal of time on a chain in her previous home. Juno is not for the faint of heart when it comes to Mal owners. She will need a firm but positive pack leader to teach her all the basics in training and leash walks, as well as not jumping up. Luckily she is very motivated by positive reinforcement and we are sure she is going to be a fast learner. We think she will make a wonderful companion due to her people loving personality.
Juno may do well with a male canine companion her size or larger, but that would really depend on the dog, she is rather picky when it comes to other dogs in general. We do know she would not be good with smaller dogs or cats. She loves kids, but families with children would need to be diligent with supervision until Juno has some basic obedience training under her belt, and of course big dogs and kids should always be supervised.
If you are looking for a happy and healthy, loving Mal and have the time to work on training right away, Miss Juno just may be a great match for you. Please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit right away.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines.

My name is Nordic and I am the new pup in town. I was found as a stray and taken to a shelter that could not keep me. So the nice people at WAMAL came to my rescue and boy was I relieved! You see I have some husky in my gene pool as seen by my beautiful, clear blue eyes and slightly slender body. But, I have a blocky head, big paws and the calmer demeanor of a malamute. I have been called a lover as I am very happy to sit by your side and soak up as much love and attention as I can get. I have also mastered a classic malamute trait called the lean in that I like to lean up against you and show you my affection. I ride in cars well and enjoy the fresh air on my face. I do have issues with people trying to take away my food bowl so you must be cautious with that. I am extremely friendly and am interested in meeting other dogs, which I do very fast and confident and I like to get right up in their face to do so! So far the few dogs I have met have been nice to me. As for cats, they are interesting and I like to pull towards them and check them out; I think if one ran I would want to chase it! I am young, have good energy, yet I can be very tranquil and observant. I am not sure if I am house-trained yet, but I am very smart and eager to lean. I do know how to sit and lie-down and I take treats softly. Will you consider making me your new buddy?
If you are interested in Nordic please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit ASAP.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines.

Amber is a beautiful loving girl who came to WAMAL as a stray. She originally arrived with a male buddy who unfortunately died unexpectedly. Amber is a trooper and despite her loss and the many upsets in her life, she is doing well in her foster home. She is easy going and calm indoors, active and lively outside. She is affectionate, curious and playful. Amber has lady like manners, is not destructive, no counter surfing and does not chew the furniture! She loves her walks outdoors, and like many Mals is a puller. She is friendly with other dogs, but has an extremely high prey drive for squirrels, raccoons, etc. She is currently living with a cat, but interactions have been limited for the safety of the cat. Amber knows some basic rules and cues and she uses selective hearing when following through with them. She has a thick wooly coat which will require extra care along with her full glorious tail. She will woo-woo when she knows it is time for outdoor fun. Amber will make a wonderful companion for an active to moderately active owner. She would do well with older children beyond the pull and poke stage of childhood. Amber would thrive with a male dog buddy, but please no cats!
If you are interested in Amber please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit ASAP.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines.

Solstice came from a dodgy situation but is now ready to meet his new forever family. He was brought into the kennel with his best buddy, Bear. Solstice is currently underweight and is looking forward to extra treats and love from his new family. He tends to be shy in the beginning but gains confidence quickly. He tends to want to slip out of the kennel unattended if given the opportunity, so a yard with a secure fence and gate will be needed. Solstice is very interested in squirrels and birds on his walks in the park, and we will be testing him with cats to see how he does with them.
UPDATE: Solstice has made great progress in his foster home; his family says he is an awesome dog! He loves people and wants to be with his human pack indoors. He has learned leash manners and lives peacefully with other dogs, alpacas, a pig and a cat. He was great at the groomers and did not protest when he had his nails trimmed! He likes car rides once he gets over the initial anxiety of loading up. He has a deep sonorous woo-woo and would do best in a home with confident adults and older children that are calm and low keyed. He would not do well in a 3 ring circus atmosphere. Solstice is a counter surfer, so be prepared to clean your kitchen counter before he does. Solstice would also be a great dog for someone interested in earning Canine Good Citizen(CGC) he definitely wants to please!
If you would like to meet Solstice please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit asap.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines.

Bear came from a dodgy situation but is now ready to meet his new forever family. He was brought into the kennel with his best buddy, Solstice. Bear is currently underweight and is looking forward to extra treats and love from his new family. Of the two, Bear is more reserved than Solstice. He tends to look toward Solstice for comfort. He does walk well on leash and would do even better with a harness. Bear shows interest in squirrels and birds on his walks in the park, and we will be testing him with cats to see how he does with them. Bear will be a wonderful addition to a family who can give him the time needed to settle in. We would like to see him placed with Solstice if possible as they are a bonded pair. Being with Solstice gives Bear the courage to try new things and meet new people. They are best buddies for life. Whoever opens their home to these two boys is going to be in for a real treat. They are both as sweet as they come.
If your are interested in meeting Bear please fill out an online application and we will schedule your home visit asap.

This Kona is not decaffeinated, that is for sure! Kona is still a young pup and needs people that share his enthusiasm for life. His interests are broad though and he loves running, hiking, playing, and exploring of any type. Once he has learned to keep all four feet on the floor he might be good with kids, but right now is probably too likely to knock a little one down to start with toddlers.
Kona gravitates towards our male volunteers and would love to hang out with the man of the house doing guy things. He plays well with the other dogs and is unknown with cats.
If you are interested in meeting Kona (or can provide him with a fosterhome while he looks for his family) please submit an application today.
Kona is being lovingly cared for in Centralia, WA.

Shiloh is a big handsome fellow who is very mellow and sweet. He has lived well with other dogs, is said to be exceptionally good with children and gets along with cats he knows. That being said Shiloh has spent some time in a foster home with cats and he was very interested and barking at them, so cats may be a challenge until he understands that they are part of his pack. He is a bit overweight and has some mobility issues that may be contributing to his weight. He is very intelligent, knows how to sit and come and enjoys playing with his stuffed animals and his ball. He is housetrained and prefers to be inside around his people. Shiloh has been moved around quite a bit lately and needs to find a forever home that he can call his own. He is very affectionate with people and would love for someone to spend time with him brushing him and giving him attention and love as he has much love to give in return!
If you are interested in meeting Shiloh or any other of our wonderful dogs, please fill out our online application and we will schedule a home visit ASAP.

Background: Big beautiful Shelby came into rescue as part of a mother, daughter team that was taken to a shelter. She was used for breeding, but has been spayed and is now comfortably awaiting her forever family. Shelby did not have much training in her early life.
Progress: Her family reports the best things about her is that she is friendly, sweet, spunky and has a puppy spirit in a middle aged body. Shelby is gentle, funny, makes goofy noises, runs in her sleep and gives head-butts to show her excitement. She tries to manipulate with her dirty looks! She is super friendly with all humans and loves getting attention. Shelby can be picky about her dog friends, but lately has participated in doggy play dates. She is slowly overcoming her nervousness around other dogs and seems to prefer smaller dogs and northern breeds. Shelby has gone camping and swimming and loves the outdoors! She is learning to tolerate car rides. Her foster parents use a harness for walking as this keeps her from slipping her collar and controls her pulling. She loves nice relaxing walks in the park and gets excited when she sees other dogs. She has a sensitive/nervous stomach which is well managed on a special diet.
Shelby is a quiet, laid-back girl who does not need a daily 3 mile run or a huge yard. She has learned some basic manners which make her even more enjoyable.Shelby would thrive in a home without cats and a regular easy exercise program and may do fine with a medium size dog friend. Fill out out online application and we will schedule your home visit asap.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines. Shelby is being cared for in Seattle, WA.

Are you ready to ... go boldly where no man has gone before?
Hello my name is Trek and I am a little different from your average earth dog. I am a malamute-mix and have unique physical features that may make me look out of this world! I have one blue-eye and one floppy ear making me as cute as they come! I was found as a stray on the streets looking for food. I was with my buddy Bones and our owner came to claim him but left me behind. I am a little tentative around new people - you can understand how it is hard for me to trust these days since I have been betrayed by humans before.
I like to go for walks, have a lot of enthusiasm and like to go for car rides. I do bark and chase strange things especially cats and Klingons. I want to be loved, and feel safe and do not want to be handled too roughly. I could use some basic training since I dont have the best manners so need an experienced owner who knows how to bring me along gently. I probably should not be around kids as I have been known to mouth human hands before. I would love to find a new home so my new human and I can ... live long and prosper!
If you would like to help Trek learn that the world can be a safe place, please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit as soon as possible.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines. Trek is being cared for in Colfax, WA.

When I see Juno, what comes to mind is the lyrics from the Antiskeptic song Beautiful in White. To feel alright, broken, restless, tired, the fear of flight. Have I told you that youre Beautiful in White? Juno, formerly known as Yo Yo, has spent his life in the back yard of a restaurant and is very shy around humans right now. So shy that the shelter thought there was no option to adopt him out, so he was going to be euthanized. We pulled him and have had several volunteers working with him. Juno has a very sweet face and a gorgeous coat. He takes treats very gently, and even planted a kiss on one of our volunteers the other day. Juno seems to be much more comfortable around humans if he is with one or two of his own kind. He gets along well with other dogs and does well on a leash and is much more open to being petted when out on walks with other dogs. He is looking for a family with patience and a lot of love to share. We think when he comes around he will make a great walking and hiking companion for a medium activity family. Juno is in an experienced foster home and will soon be tested with cats. We have no history on how he is with kids yet. We do know he can scale a 6 ft fence, so will need a securely fenced yard possibly with a hot wire on top.
If you think this handsome white boy is the one for you, please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit asap.
The adoption fee of $300 includes spay-neuter and all vaccines. Juno is being cared for in Goldendale, WA.

Bandit is about as sweet as they come! He came to us from the shelter in horrible condition but is now getting all the TLC he needs to get his coat and health back in shape. He loves to be brushed, and likes shoving his head in your lap for love. Bandit has been an indoor outdoor dog and is housetrained. He has lived with a cat and older kids from ages 11 and up. We are not sure how he does with other dogs yet, the shelter paperwork says he gets along with them as long as they are not in his yard. He walks okay on the leash, doesnt pull too bad, but could use an obedience class or some positive training techniques in his new home. Bandit will need to lose some weight in his new home, that should be easy with some regular exercise and a good diet. Dont miss out on this sweet boy, he is going to be both gorgeous and a wonderful bonded companion for a lucky family.
If you would like to meet Bandit please fill out our online application and we will schedule your home visit asap.
