His momma always said, Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what youre gonna get. Forrest didnt expect that would mean ending up as a very hungry stray in a shelter. What he is going to get in the future is a wonderful home with tons of play and fun. What one of you out there is going to get is an incredible, unforgettable boy! Forrest has a gentle and kind heart and long legs that are still a little uncoordinated as he is still very much a puppy. That will turn into a beautiful gate as he matures, and he will most likely make an awesome running partner. Forrest is a very social boy who loves people and gets along really well with other dogs. He needs a little leash work because right now he just wants to get from here to there in a hurry. He will also need some work on house training. He will be a quick learner though, and will trade almost anything for a good belly rub in the grass.

Nova is a very sweet, cutie that needs to put on some weight and get some decent grooming. We are working on both now! She is estimated to be between one and two years old so is still very much a puppy at heart. She knows both sit and lie down and seems very willing to do them on the second command, especially if hot dogs are involved. She loves people, and is very comfortable and relaxed riding in a car. As you can see in her photos, Nova has a wound on her muzzle that has recently been cleaned and she is on medication to help her heal. She will be back to her fun loving, happy and gorgeous self in no time though, so dont wait too long on meeting her. Nova just came into rescue so we will be evaluating her with other dogs, cats and kids, and will post an update on her bio.

The first thing I thought of when I saw Mosie and her beautiful bright blue eyes and smile was the Guns and Roses song Sweet Child of Mine. Shes got eyes of the bluest skies as if they thought of rain. I hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce on pain. Shes got a smile that it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories.

Mosie is a happy, friendly girl who is the size of a Malamute with the striking blue eyes of a Siberian Husky. She loves lots of petting when she is inside, and loves to follow her nose when she is outside. Mosie has a mammary gland tumor that will be removed and biopsied when she is spayed next week. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the tumor is benign and that Mosie will go on to live a very normal and very happy life as soon as her surgery is complete. Mosie has yet to be evaluated with other dogs, cats and kids, so we will post that information here as soon as we know more.

Eddie was named after the famous lead singer of the band Pearl Jam due to his incredible singing voice. Eddie LOVES to sing! He is a younger boy with a happy, happy smile and a great personality. His photos dont do him justice at all, so new photos will be posted very soon. He is missing a small piece out of one ear, maybe an old piercing he has chosen to remove now his days of traveling with the band are over?? Eddie would love an active family and a securely fenced yard. He is looking forward to many years of hiking and maybe some sledding too. He has a longer coat that will need brushing on a regular basis. Eddie is brand new so we will see how he does with other dogs and cats then will post an update.

Nicknamed Loverboy Lakota, this guy is a real joy to be around! He takes treats very gently, loves to sleep with stuffed animals, and recently sat in the midst of a circle of 3rd graders soaking up all the love, attention and petting he could get. Lakota also has the most beautiful and unique eyes, they are brown on the bottom with blue on the top. He was found as a stray wandering around the inside of a supermarket, and is now up to date on all his vaccines as well as neutered. He didnt show much interest in other dogs at the vet, and is unknown with cats. Lakota will need very securely fenced yard and some decent, regular exercise to keep him happy.

Young, energetic, friendly, and beautiful. If these are the characteristics you are looking for, Tarzan is your boy! Full of energy and in the prime of his life Tarzan would just as soon play with you as go on hikes through the forest, pull your sled through the snow, or participate in the numerous other winter activities Washington has to offer. Tarzan is one dog who has never met a stranger and will most likely give you a big kiss the first time he sees you. With his unique markings and beautiful eyes, Tarzan is one striking young malamute that you shouldnt pass up. Due to his size and energy Tarzan will do best in a more active home with lots of room to play. He will need a very securely fenced yard, preferably with hotwire, as he is an accomplished escape artist and has been known to leap tall buildings in a single bound. He loves to rest his head on your lap and have his ears scratched, or long strokes down his back. He loves loving! Tarzan is a big eater and gets very excited at meal times. He thinks cats are part of his eating plan, so no cats for Tarzan please.

ANOTHER AMAZING ROCKY UPDATE!

Its time for you to get your name on the list for Rocky! Here is an update from his foster mom.

I cant stress enough what a good dog he is. He would be perfect for a slower family with older kids, cats and other pets. He has been around all sizes of dogs and likes them all. He is doing fabulous. He has hair growing back!! He continues to thin down and he is still loving life and fitting in great. He loves to play with the dogs. He still sleeps a lot, but is ready and willing if you want to do something. He minds so good. He just wants to please. He does not like his baths, but handles them like a champ. He has an amazing bladder and goes all night without potty breaks. He is just a good all around dog. Some family will be so lucky to have him. He has soooooo much love to give. A couple of his favorite things to do is sun bathe in the morning sun and then hang with someone on the patio in the afternoon shade. He isnt all over you he just want to sit by you and watch the goings on. He really does love those doggy beds. If he has to lay on the floor to be near you he will, but he really loves his beds.

Oh yes, he is a Rock Star!! Or at least living like one.

Young Lady Nila is a small Mostly Mal pup, but dont let her diminutive size fool you. After playing with one of our volunteers his comment was that she may be small, but she is a stick of dynamite! She is a strong girl with a strong prey drive for anything on the wing or on little feet like birds and squirrels, and caution should be taken around other small creatures. Her energy will need to be managed by someone who can control serious pulling. She is a good walker though and listens to commands well so is very easily trainable. Her ideal forever home would be an active household that would take her to do sports activities like skijoring and hiking, then bring her home to love her inside the house afterward. Nila relishes loving, belly rubs and nibbling at forearms. She sits and takes treats very gently. Nila is friendly with people and appears to be good with other dogs, she loves to play! Nila is a happy, tail wagging girl that would cherish a good home with a great forever family. Nila recently had a litter of pups and her short coat shows that right now. Its growing back fast though, and she will be even more beautiful soon.

Brando is a mature adult looking for a family to love. He was rescued along with 5 other Malamutes after his owner passed away recently. He was living high in the mountains chained to a tree and somewhat neglected. Brando is recovering from the effects of very poor nutrition and little exercise. He is slowly gaining weight and putting on muscle, but could stand to gain another 10 or 15 pounds. He came to WAMAL with a bad skin infection probably caused by allergies, but is responding well to treatment.

Brando is a big loving energetic character who will come right up to you and lean in for a big body hug. He loves going for easy walks and sleeping on the sunny porch. Most of all he loves affection and attention from people. He is easy-going, cooperative, great on the leash and good in the car. Brando is not interested in escaping and comes when called. He loves all people (unknown with children) and is mostly indifferent to other dogs, although he can be growly with other males. He would most likely prefer to be an only dog, but may do okay with a friendly female dog close to his size.

Koda is a big, handsome, traditional male Malamute. He has a big, blocky head and body that goes well with his semi alpha personality and happy smile. Koda just came back into rescue through no fault of his own when his owner passed away unexpectedly. He knows all his basic commands, is extremely obedient and is housebroken. He loves to go on walks, but has a very laid back personality during his down times and makes a great couch potato too. Koda could use a regular exercise program to help get off a few extra pounds. Koda has lived with a strong human pack leader and also with his brother Kehei and his sister Lexi. He has also done well with various fosters who came through his dads home in the past few years. Koda would probably do well with another dog his size, especially a female. He would prefer to be the boss dog in his home, but is happy to be second in the pack to his human family. Koda loves riding in the car and getting tons of love and petting. He has done well at social dog events like the Furry 5K in Seattle over the years, and is just a happy boy waiting for his life to get back to normal now. Koda is not a candidate for a home with cats since he has a very high prey drive.

When I see Juno, what comes to mind is the lyrics from the Antiskeptic song Beautiful in White. To feel alright, broken, restless, tired, the fear of flight. Have I told you that youre Beautiful in White? Juno, formerly known as Yo Yo, has spent his life in the back yard of a restaurant and is very shy around humans right now. So shy that the shelter thought there was no option to adopt him out, so he was going to be euthanized. We pulled him and have had several volunteers working with him. Juno has a very sweet face and a gorgeous coat. He takes treats very gently, and even planted a kiss on one of our volunteers the other day. Juno seems to be much more comfortable around humans if he is with one or two of his own kind. He gets along well with other dogs and does well on a leash and is much more open to being petted when out on walks with other dogs. He is looking for a family with patience and a lot of love to share. We think when he comes around he will make a great walking and hiking companion for a medium activity family. Juno is in an experienced foster home and will soon be tested with cats. We have no history on how he is with kids yet. We do know he can scale a 6 ft fence, so will need a securely fenced yard possibly with a hot wire on top.

Are you looking for a tall, lean, athletic jogging partner? Sabre isthe boy for you! This boy has a very unique Phantom of the Opera mask, half black, half white. He is a real stunner. Sabre has been very depressed lately after ending up in a shelter where no one wanted him. We were able to save him in the last hour and are now looking for a family to get him back to the happy dog we know he normally is. Sabre could use some leash training and a job to do. He will need a securely fenced yard as he easily jumps fences when given the opportunity. He seems to get along with other dogs and is unknown with cats.

I am sometimes aggressive toward other dogs that are about the same size or larger. However, I have a brother who is a Shih Tzu and we get along just fine. It would be best if you dont already have a dog.

I like to be groomed and pet a lot. As long as my people love me all I want is to make them happy. I am sad that I will be leaving my old family, but I am really excited to meet and soon love my new family!

Sage is a BIG, loving, sweet and playful girl who loves people and is glad to be out of the shelter and into a foster home with 4 other dogs who she plays really well with. She does not bark, but loves to howl to greet you. Sage walks well on the leash without much pulling, and loves to go for car rides.

Lexi is a beautiful tomboy that is looking for a new home due to her loving owner passing away unexpectedly. Lexi is very active, friendly, housebroken and knows all her basic commands. She is a very well adjusted bundle of love and happiness and enjoys tearing around the yard playing with anyone who will play with her. She enjoys going on walks and would do really well as a hiking or snowshoeing companion as well. Sweet, talkative Luna is a beautiful girl who was picked up as a stray. She has beautiful white eyelashes and a mature expression to her face. Luna enjoys sitting with her paws crossed like quite the lady. She is sweet, calm, walks great on the leash and readily takes to the car with a little help getting in. She could afford to lose a few pounds but would possibly do okay in a yard with a shorter fence. She is a very happy girl and is extremely people friendly. She hasnt been cat or kid tested yet, but will post an update when we know more.

Nika is a gorgeous Vanilla colored Malamute mix with a perfect thick snow coat and a sweet, sweet personality. She loves to play with her humans and her tail is wagging constantly while she wiggles around them. She is a little nervous about being petted right now, but that is probably due to her just not being used to getting the love she deserves. She is also a bit of a guarder with her food and toys so will need some work and caution in that area. She would probably do best in a home with no kids or older kids. Nika has not yet been tested with other dogs or cats.

Kaiya is a stunning purebred typical female Malamute who has spent most of the first 2 years of her life on a chain. Now she is free to live a new life all she wants to do is play, run, play, love on her humans and chase balls. She is very good with all humans and especially kids, although she is very strong and has no formal training whatsoever, so is not ready to be walked by little humans yet. Kaiya is not good with small dogs, and most likely with small animals in general. She has been playing with male dogs her size since her rescue, and is doing well with them while supervised. Kaiya has very recently been spayed and had all her vaccines updated, and is now ready for a life of hiking, snow play and obedience classes. She will probably need work on house training too, since she lived her life outdoors until now. She is looking for a family willing to work with her on basic training, and let her be a part of a real indoor family at night.

Max was picked up as a stray in Eastern WA weighing only 44 lbs! He was so weak he was barely able to walk. We managed to get him out of the shelter and into a great foster home where he is getting some much needed TLC. He has been to the Vet and we are in the process of determining what is going on with him physically and how to proceed with his care.

Max is a beautiful, charming older dog who is faithful and very loving. He has been through a lot but is regaining some strength and weight. He is a very mellow guy who looks to please. He needs some tender, gentle loving care. No long walks needed, just lots of affection and lots of food. Max is definitely Malamute - he has that air of royalty and independence about him. He has gotten along fine with a female dog at his foster home. His foster mom reports that he has become her shadow following her everywhere! He loves to go for car rides and does not want to be left behind. You will be in love with him within minutes of meeting this wonderful dog.
