A couple of evenings ago I saw Sadie nearly get hit by an automobile while crossing a busy intersection. I tracked down her owner who said that he was trying to find someone to take her. He said that he placed an ad in the paper and someone had taken her 20 minutes earlier, apparently when I saw her in the intersection she was returning home from that adventure. He called the people who had taken her, they then told him that they didn't want her after all. Obviously he wasn't screening prospective adoptive families very well. He told me that he had bought her from a breeder three years earlier but now lives in a rental home with a fence that she keeps getting through.. She had escaped several times and wouldn't return for 4 of more hours. When he asked if I knew anyone who would take her, I had heard enough and I took her home myself. I am dismayed that anyone who has had a dog for three years would give it up so easily and to just anyone who will take her, I was afraid of what would be in her future if I didn't take her home. We have a good kennel and fenced yard but we cannot keep Sadie for long because we already have three other dogs and two of them must be kept separate from Sadie; one who must be kept quiet because he still has five weeks to recover from a TPLO surgery and another who just won't put up with any new dog, especially a very large one. My fiancé and I both really like Sadie and would like to keep her if circumstances were different but we don't consider having to keep our dogs separated to be realistic long term option. Sadie is a very sweet and good natured girl and seems to get along and play well with other dogs. She loves to roll over and receive a good belly rub. Her former owner said that she has been spayed. I estimate that she weighs at least 140lbs. We would appreciate any help WAMAL can provide to find Sadie an appropriate and loving new home.
